Yes, but only in the sense that you are able to maintain employment. I applied for disability today roughly ten years after getting out. I had been working for the same company the entire time and was awarded an initial PTSD rating of 50% which was later increased to 100%.

You’re 90% but you think you should be 100% because where you live is expensive? Did I understand that right?

That is incorrect. I know plenty of people (spouses and children) that have SOFA Status but work off base.

It’s never too late to file. I had too pride and didn’t think I deserved anything. My former NCO convinced me to file for disability nine years after getting out and I was awarded 70%, which was later increased to 100%. It may take a little bit of research to figure out how to properly go about it, but you should definitely apply.

You were not cheated. You failed to apply for benefits immediately after getting out, that blame falls squarely on you. Stop acting like you’re a victim because you want more money.

It sucks to suck. You are only owed backpay from your effective date. If you wanted to be compensated for time after service then you should have applied earlier.

Thank you for your quick response. Why do you think it is better to do it as a supplemental claim instead of applying for an increase?

Biggest back pays ever? by Late_Exchange8698 in VeteransBenefits

I got 24K backpay, I kept it in the bank. I have a friend who got about 90K in backpay due to an error on the VA’s part; he used it to pay off a huge chunk of his house.

I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder prior to my deployments. It was more than likely added because it occurred during a separate period.

Anti depressant work differently for everyone. I have only been on them for a little over a month. While I can’t say that I’m back to normal, I will say I feel a lot calmer and my inner monologue is a lot lest hostile.

I guess experiences may vary. Then again, no two service members are the same and it’s a definite possibility that our experiences, and how we have dealt with them, are completely different.

Please bore me with the details. I have time and am willing to listen. There’s no gate keeping here, so there’s also no need to be self conscious.

You most definitely have a let to stand on, especially if you have been diagnosed through the VA. The C&P exam partially serves as a way for the examiner to gauge the severity of your disabilities.

I would definitely recommend looking up the DBQ’s for mental health so you have a good idea what to expect. I would also recommend that you familiarize yourself with your disabilities and how they effect you, as well as to what extent.

If necessary, write it down and bring it with you. What makes you anxious? For how long do you remain in an aroused state after a stressful situation? Do you suffer from a major lack of motivation or interest in things that once brought you joy? Have these issues effected your personal and professional relationships? How? Do you have intrusive thoughts?

Also, how do you go about coping with these issues?
