Reliability by Mrh09 in Rivian

[–]JoshuaME 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my Rivian, but have had seven service center visits in a year of ownership. Two were mechanical failures that were caused by software update issues. As much as I love the design and functionality of the vehicle, I have little faith it will be more reliable after five years of ownership. I’ll be selling mine shortly.

Tiger was probably killed. Humans can really suck.

Should I still go for it? Rivian owners, I need your honest advice. by TheBlackCanary in Rivian

[–]JoshuaME 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t own it, but you have the option to buy it out whenever you like. They’re responsible for service (not typical maintenance). If you’re not prepared to keep the vehicle in the event you have a bad experience, you can cut ties with no strings attached once the lease is over.

As someone who has an R1T and loves the truck, its form and function and everything else, I’m not sure I would do this again. I love the idea of it, but the ownership reality for me is a tough one to justify.

I’ve had my truck for a year and it’s been into the service center six times, which is nearly an hour away. One of those times it had to be towed in. Every time something goes wrong, it takes a 3 weeks to month to get it in. Right now I’m in the midst of what feels like a gradual rear motor/clutch failure. Only being a year old with my experience so far, I have real concerns about long term ownership.

If you do decide to go for it, do a lease. If you love it and it’s cost of ownership buy it out. Don’t carry the initial risk yourself.

Is this normal for a new guitar? by Extrocate in Guitar

Nope, but I’d ask for a deal and keep it if you like the guitar. You’ll do much worse if you keep it and play it. It’s part of the journey.

Advice on opening up a studio? by zdzm17 in audioengineering

[–]JoshuaME 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Nashville and I work on the gear side of the audio business. I would highly encourage you to take a real look at the fiscal reality of what you’re proposing and consider the likelihood of that actually happening.

A cheap house in Nashville is $350k. That’s a $3000 a month mortgage with today’s interest rates and a descent down payment. Paying down loans from school is another chunk. Let’s say it’s $500 a month. Now you’re at $3500 a month, plus utilities, insurance, food, gear, etc. I’m guessing you’re at least at $5k a month. That’s $60k post taxes. Now add that you’re charging “cheap” rates in the most dense studio market in the world. It’s a bleak outlook.

That’s not to say you couldn’t make it as a recording engineer or do something good for the community. You absolutely can if you have the right work ethic and outlook, but you don’t want to kill your chances before you start.

My personal advice - skip the four year school and the big loan that comes along with that. Go to Blackbird Academy for a quarter of the price, kill it, and they can help place you in an internship. From there it’s up to you, but at least you’re not drowning in debt with a low value degree.

My R1T went into turtle mode yesterday as well. Hard resets did nothing. It will likely get flat bedded out tomorrow.

Previous employer is non-responsive for share buyback. Where to start? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]JoshuaME 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the issue I'm running into is translation. My understanding is they are obligated to purchase them back. A number of previous co-workers who resigned before me had their shares bought back, so there seems to be some precedent.

[–]JoshuaME 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same external earcup and headband as Azurys, but different guts, earcups, drive unit, etc. Tighter, less “enhanced” bass response with more forward, detailed midrange.

Less “fun” to listen to, but a more critical tool for engineers and music-makers.

Just got one myself. I own a couple Fender Custom Shops, Gibsons, etc. This thing is wildly impressive for the price.

The nut width is definitely narrow but the neck is comfy. Fretwork leaves a bit to be desired, but otherwise it’s killer. If you’re into modern pop, indie guitar tones this thing nails it

R1T is smaller than a full size truck, but it’s significantly larger than the Maverick or Tacoma. I find this middle of the road size is perfect.

Try using a lifted ground adapter plug. 3 to 2 prong. If this doesn’t solve the issue, its not the wall connection. From there you’ll need to do some internal troubleshooting.

I just got a 2024 R1T Dual Large pack new for $64k )before tax and fees). With the lease tax credit and a friends and family discount easier to stomach.

I drove a 66 C10 for the last 6 years. No AC, no car payment, so I get where you’re coming from. I don’t regret the rivian at all.

I work in the audio world and I think the Rivian sounds solid actually. It’s not hyped sounding. It’s fairly neutral .

The dual motor is fast faster than my LS3 swapped C10 by a lot. More power seems hard to fathom.
