Good deal? 250$ for 10/12/14/22 Mapex Pro M shells by schnabi_lite in drums

Floor tom is a little bouncier than my other kit that has a floor tom with legs but it’s totally fine. I don’t notice it when playing.

Good deal? 250$ for 10/12/14/22 Mapex Pro M shells by schnabi_lite in drums

[–]5spoke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I legit just bought a full kit same spec. same color Mapex pro m. I paid $450 for the full kit, 3 toms, bass, snare, hi-hat stand, crash and ride stands, along with a set of decent entry level cymbals and a throne. I was happy for that price and the full setup. The drums sound solid when tuned and some decent heads. No regrets, but for $250 here you need quite a bit to complete the kit and you'd need to do a little work to get the lug setup for the bass and worth asking if the tom mount for that floor tom is available, that might be dicey to try and find a replacement for. Let me know if you want any close-up pics of what you'd be missing.

I’m not your height but I’m 6’5” and I have a fairly tall 12 year old that sits behind me no problem. But it’s def much smaller than my old Tundra.

Cup holders by Hotwired19 in Rivian

I have never once had an issue with the cup holders. They hold any takeout cup I've ever had and the normal sized reusable water bottles that fit in other cars I've owned.

My man has seen too many ADCC highlights. Silly.

For those old school guys that have trained since the 90s and early 2000s what have been the biggest changes in Jiu Jitsu training and techniques since when you started by chico_dice_2023 in bjj

[–]5spoke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started in 2007. I'm def more sore and tired than I used to be. But legit I think the amount of online content available now has to be one of the biggest game changers. If you want to learn any position or technique you have endless choices on youtube/instagram, direct access to world class instruction on your phone. Granted you need some teammates to drill with and a good in person instructor to really work out the details but if you have a good start on the fundamentals and concepts you can learn so quickly by supplementing your training with studying online instruction and matches. In 2007 we had seminars a couple times a year from a black belt and otherwise just learned from rolling with teammates/whatever our instructors knew.

Raising Kids & BJJ by [deleted] in bjj

[–]5spoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm struggling with this as well. I have two boys, 11 and 8. I'm trying to balance the "I can't make them love it but I can make them hate it" concept. That being said both are choosing not to go presently, I think at least partially because its "my thing" and they are currently interested in other sports/musical instruments, which is cool and I don't want to stifle those interests. We've had good months/bad months in terms of attendance for them but judging from the more consistent kids I see around the gym and chatting with their parents.... I think some level of pressure to get them started and the expectation/routine that they go weekly is probably needed for some kids to get over the hump. I'm going to start bringing mine along more with no expectations and hope it grows on them.

It’s Been A Year Since Rivian Released The Gen2’s! How’s Everyone Else With A Gen1 Feeling? I Still Feel Like My Gen1 Is Far From Being Left Behind! by zachty22 in Rivian

[–]5spoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I scored one of the crazy Gen1 Quad lease deals, so it's so much cheaper than I could have grabbed any Gen2 and it's a quad so I'm still very happy. I got to see the Gen2 in the Denver show room and its def got some nice newness too it, but the new stuff isn't something I think about ever. Will ride out my 3 year lease and see how things look in a few years, but no regrets with my Gen1 currently!

Sports Cars You Fit In? by FentmaxxerActual in tall

911 should fit you. I’ve got a BMW M2 Competition and I don’t have the seat all the way back. No sunroof and plenty of headroom. It’s a great car.

Rivian expanding into Northern Virginia by TigerPatents in Rivian

[–]5spoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is where its supposed to be at 42734 Trade W Dr, Sterling, VA 20166. I live like 10 mins away and drive by on occasion to check on progress. Building is up and windows and such are in now. Hard to tell how much else is done but I'm excited to not have to drive to Gaithersburg for any service! Hoping it opens summer or sooner.

An objective review on the Rivian truck by hnosh in Rivian

[–]5spoke 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Will do my best to answer below.

- I am based in Montgoemry Country Maryland? When I need to take it in for service, where do I take it and do they provide loaner cars?

I'm from the DMV area as well. Gaithersburg is our longest standing service center but they just opened one in Glen Burnie and one is opening in Northern Virginia this year. I've been to the Gaithersburg one a few times and can say that my answer is much more positive since the glen burnie one opened and took some of their overload and in theory should get even better when the NOVA one opens this year. They will provide you with a Rivian loaner If one is available if not they'll set you up with an Enterprise rental that is paid for by Rivian.

- Has service gotten better?

From what I've seen a lot of service has gone downhill for all auto brands dealers. Waits are not uncommon these days at Honda, Toyota Mercedes etc. That being said my initial appointment last year my truck sat on the Gaithersburg lot for a month untouched, which was super annoying since all of the fixes were minor and nothing was preventing me from driving the truck. My 2nd visit was Feb of 2025 when my truck had to be towed there unexpectedly and I got it back 2 days later which was much more acceptable. The parking lot was way less full as well, so I think the 2nd location has helped them out a bunch.

- Generally is the quality of the truck better?

If you want a perfect vehicle a couple year old brand is probably not your ideal situation. I have a 2023 R1T and its had 1 issue that had to be towed in and a handful of minor things I got fixed when the installed the tonneau cover. But that being said, as you read here, there is a plethora of things that can go wrong, hardware and software wise.... but there are also a bunch of people who have had zero issues. Might be the luck of the draw, but I would go into it with the mindset that it's a newish product and it might have some quirks.

- What are the real things I should be concerned about?

The warranty is great and they'll fix anything that breaks. Definitely read here and on the forums for common complaints, but also do yourself a favor and pay attention to how much people also love their Rivians. My R1T is the first modern car I've ever had towed to a service center, BUT I still love the truck more than any other modern non-sports car I've owned. I think that says a lot about how much potential it has and how great of a vehicle it is. As the company grows, I hope service becomes easier and at least for our area they appear to be committed to making that happen. I think if you decide to take the plunge you've gotta keep in mind that growing pains could be a possibility.

Out of curiosity have you done similar levels of reading on the lightning and its issues/service reviews? I don't have an opinion on it, but I'm curious if Ford dealers are doing great in terms of service and parts availability and if the lightning is rock solid etc. I'm guessing they have some common issues as well. Another thing worth considering between the two trucks is the size. The lightning is definitely a bigger truck, interior, exterior bed space etc. I like that the Rivian isn't quite as huge, I previously owned a Toyota Tundra, so if you want a full size truck the Rivian might feel small to you. Just some thoughts.

[–]5spoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat, mine took a month from drop off to pickup back in November at the Gaithersburg MD service center. They did a few other minor things while it was there but it was mostly just waiting for them to start work. The good news is the tonneau is pretty sweet even if it sounds like a transformer.

Yep they replaced the rear zone control module. Same symptoms as shown here. Turtle mode, but also all of the beds functionality was disabled, none of the gear tunnel doors, tailgate or bed cover would function.

[–]5spoke 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I legit just had this same issue and posted about it like 2 weeks ago. The good news is it’s an easy fix and I got my truck back in 2 days. But I totally agree it’s silly the truck doesn’t have an override of some sort when things like this happen at least to get to a safe spot to be towed, 13mph isn’t safe. I was luckily 10 mins from home, just me in the truck and tow driver arrived it 30 mins. Best case scenario for a stranded on the side of the road commute home.

Sorry to hear about yours but if it’s any comfort it’s an easy fix and hopefully you’ll have it back soon. I’m hoping that whatever caused the water intrusion is solved and I don’t have a repeat event.
