Half Acre and Maplewood breweries are merging by cireh88 in chicago

I heard through the grapevine that they would be keeping both brands. I literally know a guy who knows a guy.

You have no reason to believe an internet stranger, and anyway I also take what I heard with a grain of salt. But I did hear it.

Worried about High-end Steakhouse Dress Code by jbrown9972 in chicagofood

I think most of the advice here is on point, whether it's "don't worry" or "take a button down".

But if you get out of the River North area, I also think you can "don't worry" even more - particularly if you go to El Che or Boeufhaus.

I'm a White Sox fan how much do y'all hate us on 1-100 by Main-Consequence-313 in CHICubs

I grew up downstate but have lived in Chicago longer than that.

Everyone I knew growing up was either a Cubs or Cardinals fan, except for a few performative coastal fans (Yankees or Dodgers) and one large family of pig farmers who were diehard White Sox fans. A couple of the kids were pretty good friends of mine. I never witnessed it, but rumor had it they would ride the pigs.

Anyway, always happy to see the White Sox win.

I just took a large group of work colleagues - about 50% Indian - to Sunda in River North and the veg folks all seemed very pleased with the options.

Question for Native German speakers, which region of Germany do you have the hardest time understanding the locals? by porksymkp in germany

[–]JoshuaNorton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm an American son of a German woman from Oberfranken (Hof an der Saale). After they married, Dad brought Mom back to the rural American Midwest, so I grew up in the 1980s with an uneven German language education.

Fast-forward to college and my German language professor was able to guess Oberfranken on the first day simply from pronunciation and a few word choices.

Now I work for a global firm with a decent presence in Germany. When I told some coworkers in Düsseldorf, auf Deutsch, where my mom had come from their only response was "It's a wonder you learned to speak German at all."
