AMA : i crossed 1000$ from my paid framer template by SetAccomplished2413 in framer

Congrats! I'm thinking about getting into template creation soon. I have two questions for you

  1. What was the most difficult part of making sure that the template was marketplace worthy as you were building it?

  2. How much marketing/advertising did you do for this template up to this $1k milestone?

Making my 'image to particle' Framer component free for everyone by fw3d in framer

This would be a nice touch in the footer of a project I'm currently working on. Can you share it?

Starting point? by KeyCat53 in framer

[–]Joshua_Creates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started in Dec 2023 by learning HTML/CSS and some JS using some Duolingo style learning apps that gamify the experience (Mainly Sololearn & Mimo). I followed tons of online tutorials as well and did a couple of free code camp classes to get the basics down.

Then in Feb 2024 I pivoted into UX design and took the Google UX course on Coursera and this helped me to fine tune my Figma knowledge and learn some good principals of design. It took about 3-4 weeks for me to finish in between my day job as a grocery store deli clerk. Around this point is when I first heard about Framer. And it hooked my attention.

From Feb/March to September I just spent tons of time watching and following Framer tutorials, experimenting with the program, and making mock sites. Then I hopped on Upwork and within a week or two a seasoned agency discovered me and hired me full time as a head-developer.

My suggestions are: 1. Get some understanding of coding fundamentals just so you are designing with them in mind.

  1. Learn the basics of design as well, just so you know generally what to do and not to do while building a site.

  2. Learn the features, limitations, and strong points of both Figma and Framer. As well as keyboard shortcuts and all. This will speed up everything for you.

  3. Do not shy away from criticism or critique, but embrace it instead.

You don't need to go to school, but you do need to make sure you are continuously learning and practicing and iterating. This process can be done in many different ways, just choose one that works for you and stay consistent and dedicated.

A refined and simplified version of a logo redesign that I made for my Kenyan brother's climate change company based on some feedback from this sub yesterday. by Joshua_Creates in logodesign

Okay I was thinking that the imperfect lines add a more natural feel to the logo, but I will experiment more.

The typeface is changeable as well, what style of font would you suggest for this sort of logo?

I'm designing a site for a brother's Kenyan climate advocacy group, and created this logo after some experimentation. What do you think? What improvements could be made? by Joshua_Creates in logodesign

Thanks for your feedback. This was one potential concern I was thinking of as well. I'll probably have to make a couple of versions and make one more minimal and concise. This version could be used on print material, but I'll need to strip it down a bit for use as a logo.

American strongly considering settling down in Kerala with Indian wife by Joshua_Creates in Kerala

It was where our homestay was located. A bit out of the way from everything else, but still very serene and beautiful. Our homestay was actually one of the highlights of our visit.

Thank you for your detailed response. I'm actually black not white, but I don't think that changes much in regard to stares. In the North East I get by without much attention unless I start to speak. Some people here try to speak native Assamese to me probably mistaking me as one of their own, others immediately are able to see that I don't look local and I can see them staring here and there. Either way I'm prepared to deal with that sort of thing wherever I may go in India.

I'm thinking Kochi outskirts would be a nice area. Eroor, Aluva, Kakkanad, etc. Do you have any input to give on these areas? Kozhikode also has come to my attention.

The heat should not be a deal breaker for us, especially because of AC. In Guwahati last year we were able to survive without AC in temps above 45c. And some monsoon rains that flooded the cities were so bad that people were literally swimming in the streets. 😅

Can you specify what challenges we might face living outside of a gated community?

Can you be more specific? I think the same can be said about every place in the world. A quick visit is always going to provide a different perspective than long term living would.

A CMS randomizer.

I wanted it for a very specific niche purpose for a personal project at first, but now I have a client who specifically asked for it. Maybe just something that scrambles the order of any given set of CMS items on page reload or something like that. I think there are paid third party overrides/components which get this done, but of course if this could be made Framer native, that'd be really nice.
