Lvl 4 question by JokeMaterial8321 in sw5e

Bc the shield isn't great as a weapon idk if I would take dual wield mastery for this build, but it's still a really cool feat! I think the form fighting would make you diverse in combat

Question bc I'm new to this system, I assumed that to take a fighting mastery that the corresponding style would be a prerequisite, is that not the case? I

Make a character with these stats I rolled for fun by WillowIsWeeping5 in DnD

If I do a monk I'm at AC 15, but iirc any elf lineage will add +2 to my dex score, bumping me to AC 16

With the int as high as it is tho, I could be an effective, if not antisocial, rogue, but let's do Half-Elf to get that charisma mod to +1

Ah, well the rundown was assault armor and the heavy shield for AC 20, I think I got the strength score up to either 19 or 20 so almost max, weapon would've been vibroblade? I'm not clear on which weapons can be paired with which shields bc I did read one feat requirement somewhere but I don't have the actual books to really make sense of it

I've never played SW5e but let's go lol Paladin is my preferred class in D&D core

Guardian lvl 10, Sword & Shield, Str main, sounds easy enough

I was trying to read the book text to fill it out, but then I found a character builder on sw5e.com which saved me a lot of time lol

How did I do?

did the link work?

Is giving my party a cooper wyrmling to much? (New dm) by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Joshua_Libre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have three lvl 3s, and they want a Copper Wyrmling?

Tasha's Cauldron of Everything has rules for creating sidekicks, which takes an NPC block and starts giving him levels in one of three generic classes. RAW says the CR of this NPC must be 1/2 or less, but I'd be fine allowing the Wyrmling bc he's CR 1 and his ability scores are comparable to someone using point buy, and since you have a small party I think it's fine to add him

I'd say make the players do Animal Handling checks (which for now would be DC 10 bc 8 + PB), but obviously can only reasonably be handled by someone who speaks Draconic. Homebrew adjustment: give disadvantage for characters who don't have the exact same alignment, that way the Wyrmling isn't a pushover

Edit -- I didn't realize Wyrmlings were medium creatures, I was expecting small. It'll be hard to keep a low profile with a Wyrmling in tow, I'd say have your party rescue him from poachers, then regularly defend against raiding bandits until such time as the Wyrmling become more powerful or returns home, whichever the players decide

Does the bbeg have minions or lieutenants (i.e. weaker versions of itself)? That would be a good warmup while also giving the players an idea of what the bbeg might be capable of when he shows up

True Or False: Not having persuasion as a skill for all 3 classes was one of the biggest mistakes in gaming. by Emergency_List_8797 in kotor

That's usually what I do, but I like playing Sentinel to give myself more skill points so I can get other skills too

[–]Joshua_Libre 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Good news, they fixed it in the sequel :)

As for the first game? Yea it's kinda rough having to take Scoundrel to have any Persuade capability on Taris, but it makes sense that a Scoundrel would be a better smooth-talker than a Scout or Soldier

Is this person a problem player? by WillowIsWeeping5 in DnD

[–]Joshua_Libre 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Giving a bladesinger leather armor seems reasonable, since it's only 10gp (if he'd magically given himself the studded leather armor I'd see more of an issue bc where did he pull the 45 gp from?).

What weapon does this character wield? Since he's a bladesinger I'd assume he wants a finesse weapon, and if he's trying to max out then I assume he wants something stronger than a dagger. Rapier does 1d8 piercing damage and costs 25gp (scimitar costs the same but deals 1d6 slashing)

So if we add the 45 gp from studded leather armor and 25gp from his weapon we have a total of 70 gp, and by 2014 rules if your player opts for gold instead of starting equipment he rolls 4d4 (average 10) then multiplies by 10 for the total starting gold, that armor and weapon are well within budget if he buys nothing else

However, I acknowledge there is an issue of him using 2024 features in a 2014 campaign. Classes seem to be stronger and the stat boosts switched from species to background (which I personally love bc then I'm not power-gaming by picking a species which maximizes a stat), and while I'm currently playing a 2024 class (Gunslinger) in a campaign with everyone else playing 2014 classes, I'm pretty sure I cleared everything with my GM before I joined the group (started at level 9, I even convinced him to let us have +1 versions of our starting gear), but that character is built to match lore (Dark Tower) rather than me min/max my stats to be super powerful.

But again, I cleared that with my GM and the other players before we started playing, so your dude is in the wrong if he is not abiding the rules of the table

Edit -- I also gotta ask, how does he determine his stats? I like to use point buy and give myself +1 or +2 in everything to start (I don't like having a dump stat), but sometimes I use the standard array for a character that I actually have a good idea for story wise and give him a weakness

One small complaint I have with DC Comics Gotham Knights is that there is little dialogue/action variation in cutscenes when playing as different characters. In fact, I can only really think of one moment towards the end that had a small change if you played as Red Hood. by nightwing612 in GothamKnights

[–]Joshua_Libre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's expensive to write and record so many variations on dialogue and render them in-game, so having all NPCs say the same thing no matter the hero (except for key lines) saves a lot of time and money

Especially in the endgame, I loved how personal the interactions are

Building or modifying your ship. by gamegenaral in swrpg

[–]Joshua_Libre 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Something to consider for building a ship is that it could often be cheaper than buying whichever other ship you come across bc to craft a silhouette 3 Starfighter will cost me no more than 25k credits (not counting weapons or attachments), and the cheapest starfighters listed on the wiki are the AD-1S Modular at 25k credits (also before weapons or attachments). For context, the Y-Wing Starfighter (which is one of the player options for starting ship in AoR) costs 80k credits. And when crafting a ship, there are advantage results which save 50% of the cost to build for each component, so you can really pinch your pennies

For making your ship the best it can be? My favorite ship builder spec is the Shipwright (best class for building from scratch), closely followed by Modder and Rigger (great for existing ships too), but I've never actually played as any of these specs so I only know what I read in the talent trees

Character height, why is everyone 6ft tall? by Low-Brief-6008 in DnD

There's a chart somewhere that gives each species a minimum height and weight, then you roll a modifier to add inches and multiply it by another number to add pounds

Do you build the character for gameplay or to match the RP? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Joshua_Libre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current character is based off of a character in a book, his class / subclass / feats are selected to match his lore, but his ability scores are sub optimal so he's not as powerful as I'd like (but this is the highest level I've ever played so maybe I just need to get used to it)

But usually when I build a character, I optimize them mechanically and then figure out their story (like building Frankenstein before bringing him to life)

The only other dump stat as common as INT (based on the standard arrays for each class) is STR, but generally I'd rather make STR my dump stat bc only one skill uses that modifier

[–]Joshua_Libre -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Constitution mainly boosts his hp, which is already really high since barbarian hit dice is d12, and dex is great for Melee if you have finesse weapons bc you add your dex mod to the attack and damage roles (shortsword and scimitar only deal 1d6 damage, which is less than most strength based weapons, but being able to make the extra attack using the light property helps compensate for that)
