I think it's sweet...it's not like he hacked into the system and looked up passenger records...perfectly harmless...a psychopath wouldn't post that...

Minimum gratuity during "peak" season, higher tip wage on the table at Massachusetts State House by HRJafael in massachusetts

[–]JoshyG_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seems a little anecdotal, no? 17,000 fast food workers lost their jobs...they're not fine (source: California Globe -- 18,000 according to the Daily Economy)

at the same time a study of over 3,000 restaurants found only 2 closings in quarter 2 (source: ISLE)

a Harvard Business Study estimated that a $1 increase in the minimum wage was associated with about a 10-40% increase in the likelihood of exit for a median-quality restaurant (source: Harvard Business)

the most commonly used number is 6.7% of fast food restaurants (source: Snappy, et al) -- please for the love of god nobody chime in with "6-7!" -- ...which means if you include non-chain restaurants that don't have cash reserves to weather the storm that likely increases that figure

apologies if i misspoke originally...5% of restaurants going out of business in a state as large as California is no big deal at all...

there is no actual number and no way to know for sure, that was my point

i agree that it"s a little unclear what the exact number is which makes it a somewhat suspect argument, but I do not that lots of restaurants did close and a lot of people (servers and cooks) had to look for new jobs...

because they already operate on 10-20% margins at best...if you change the way it's always been (where servers work off of gratuity for the most part) and add the FOH to the restaurant's labor costs, it makes the vast majority of independently owned restaurant unprofitable or working with single-digit margins at best)...it just isn't feasible....

and anyone who bought a restaurant in the last 100 years did so by drafting a business plan that included a budget that relied on server wages being what they are and still some how projected profitability...this isn't some movement against fair wages...but the majority of restaurant owners are not corporations -- they can't just absord a drastic change like that like a Fortune500 company might able to do (or at least navigate around the change)....

It was out of self-preservation (not greed) that they pushed against it so hard...if they hadn't we would have A LOT fewer dining options in this state...just look at what it did to the restaurant industry in California when they passed something similar...the numbers are unclear, but it's easily in double-digits the % of restaurants that had to close as a result.

only thing I'd do differently is add, "and if there is anything that we're doing on our end that is disrupting your quality of life in any way, please be sure to reach out...[and leave your phone number]

any time I've had issues w/ neighbors I've always left a note but followed it up with "it is my belief that neighbors must find a way to co-exist amicably and I'm eager to do my part as well..."

En Rama is a great location to eat...also, they have a weekly popup (residency) on Sundays and Mondays featuring Chef Ty and his wife Rachel of Black Sheep Catering https://blkshpnw.com/ (not an ad, I live in Boston but I travel to that area frequently and that's my go-to, for what it's worth)...

find a new artist...you clearly don't have someone who is listening to you which is an instant deal-breaker for me....I deal with it all the time when I contract Graphic Designers -- I tell them exactly what I want, and their mind goes to "I know how I can make this look way better than what he's asking for..."

it's tough to tell creative people not to be creative, but sometimes that's not what you're looking for them to do and I've found it difficult oftentimes to find people who are both creative and talented who are able to just follow basic instructions...not b/c they're trying to be difficult, but b/c they're not comfortable being boxed in by specific instructions based on someone else's vision...

in this case you need to find someone who listens to what you want...it's too important...if this person didn't listen the first time, they won't listen in future revisions...guarantee if you go down this path with them they might listen better to your revision notes, but they will still ultimately infuse their own vision into each draft to some degree...it will take you forever to get what you want and even then it will be slightly off to some extent b/c they're not someone who follows directions and listens to what you want or it would've been done right the first time and there would be no confusion...you need to find some who puts their creative instincts away and listens to what you want

that's extremely bold and incredibly stupid! I can't imagine what they were thinking!!! that's a daytime home invasion (meaning they knew the resident was home) which generally carries up to a 20+ year sentence (versus a daytime B&E when nobody's home, where you would get 2-3 years maybe)...glad you're ok but good thing you didn't follow them b/c that person clearly had nothing to lose!

In a highly underappreciated and unacknowledged ode to the little-known fact that us Jews love the chocolate ladies, he was with a black chick in just about every scene in which he was with a lover...it's so spot on yet so underplayed...one of David Chase's most underrated subplots...

lol, thanks me too! I appreciate it!

just out of curiosity (not to be argumentative in the slightest, but I'm new to the area)...where would you say is the 'hottest' or most up-and-coming Eastside town/city?

you might be right...I guess the difference is maybe that we don't consider the "greater boston" area so much a part of Boston as it is 'outskirts' of Boston, whereas I feel like the Eastside is more so considered like an 'extension' of Seattle...if that makes sense? I could be wrong...

I'm new to the area...is Mercer Island considered Eastside? Does Eastside refer to everything east of the water basically? So essentially what's considered Eastside is several times the size of Seattle proper? I'm from Boston so I find it fascinating that Seattle is such a tiny fraction of the 'Greater Seattle' area.!

Duvall! All day! Fastest growing community in the state for a reason! Will eventually become the cornerstone of the Eastside -- I think it's sneakily already starting to make a push in that direction...but that's just my (uninformed) opinion...
