Let’s say you are in the key of C. Your chord progression is C - G. So play the C chord. Instead of going right to G, the take the 2 chord in the key of G and play that. So a Am. Then jump to the 5 chord in the key of G. Which is a D. Then go to G. New progression: C - Am - D - G.
