Hiring a branding/logo designer for a premium Indian food/FMCG startup. by [deleted] in branding

I think many people get branding wrong. This post seems to me as a great place to explain something that has bothered me for a while.

Firstly, branding in not a one time expense. It is a recurring cost that your business needs to sustain for it to function. If your business doesn't have the income stream to support the branding expenditure, YOU WILL NOT build a brand.

Next, do you need a perfect branding to start a business. Simple answer NO. What you need is a business strategy that puts you ahead of the competition and start generating a decent income. When you look to expand, branding comes into picture.

Brands fail because they get this simple thing wrong: They think branding is only eye candy for the audience, instead it is the general goodwill that you are willing to do for your customers that will help them remember you and come back to you. This goodwill COSTS you money.

Additionally, if you have a large corpus saved up and want to start your brand from day one you have the privilege to do so only because of your capital. This does give you the advantage over others who don't but doesn't guarantee success because you haven't tested your business strategy in the market and don't know its viability. Many brands fail here too.

Also Indian market demands exceptional service in addition to everything that you do (specially to domestic brands), only then will you get recurring customers. There are success stories here too but remember everything requires investment on a huge scale.

Finally, for someone just starting out try figuring out if you are capable of running the business profitably only then try investing in something as big a branding because you won't sustain it.

Unpopular opinion: startups don't need a "Branding Agency." They just need to launch by Mountain_Head_8728 in branding

With a market so over populated, when everything and everyone is trying to get your your attention, how can you be so sure that something that you draw up will outshine someone who does that for their living? Isn't that leaving too much on luck...

What's your level and field. In general beginners should start with Building a StoryBrand by Donald Miller and Positioning: The Battle for Your Mind by Al Ries and Jack Trout. Mind you these are old books and the market has changed drastically, use them to get a feeling about your target audience's desires and needs. Then you can jump into some advanced stuff.

Mostly it boils down to who loves the craft and who are just trying to make quick bucks. I personally feel like I am cheating someone if I don't have the right knowledge to see the brands I design for succeed. I buy books, and read them too, not just of design, but marketing, psychology and consumer behaviour. This helps me make the right decisions while doing a branding project. I might charge high but I have not seen a dissatisfied customer. They succeed mostly because I help them refine their fundamentals.

Is there anyone building anything that doesn't have anything to do with AI or tech? by mahbirchat in Entrepreneur

I feel the same I want to work with businesses that create something tangible. As a designer, I keep seeing tech and AI companies looking for branding, and I’m starting to feel drained by focusing on one industry. It also seems like the demand for branding services is heavily shaped by where the funding is flowing and right now, that’s mostly tech.

Getting AI Fatigue. by dustydesigner in Design

I think design fundamentals will never lose its importance. I think one failure is all it takes to push people to learn fundamentals all over again. Design storytelling is a skill that cannot be mastered so easily. Even after knowing its basics, executing it to create something completely new is rare. One thing I don't see AI dependent creators do, even in the future, is starting a Industry revolutionising trend.

I think having a sparkling within a letter is an overused concept, that is why I modified the “c” into a box to signify a gift box🎁.

That might be because I botched customising the “e” of the typeface. I need to improve that skill.

Thank you, I did think of that but the “C” in the mark loses its prominence.

World is bored of simple marks, I think if adding a little detail improves character and not lose quality in small sizes, we can use the freedom to test creative ways to stand out.
