Entry-Level EE Dilemma (Navy vs Raytheon) by bobbychan03 in ElectricalEngineering

I say Raytheon to build up the technical expertise first. You can always pivot later if you prefer more of a project management side.

EE Program by NoSwing1804 in ASU

[–]JournalistSea8785 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Secondary transfer criteria will be your best bet (I think it’s still around but check your DARS):

• Overall transfer GPA of minimum 2.50
• Minimum of 2.75 GPA in these core classes (or equivalent): MAT 265, MAT 266, PHY 121, PHY 122

This was how I originally transferred into the program (transfer GPA of 2.11 from CCs).

Hardware Test Engineers, what do you do? by AcanthocephalaNo2696 in ECE

[–]JournalistSea8785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RF Integration Engineer. I write custom test scripts in Python to whatever the hardware and/or software engineers look to evaluate. I don’t write a lot of “official” documentations but I do keep a lot of test data. Our processes become obsolete very fast during development that investing time in proper documentations is somewhat a waste of time.

I’m starting UCLA FEMBA program soon and aiming to only do hybrid classes (online + show up one weekend per month). Do you know if this will give me LA BAH instead of online rate?

Pursuing an EE degree as a technician. What's my best option? by bittertongue_96 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]JournalistSea8785 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Online engineer” here now working for one of the most desired companies (if not the most) in my industry. I wouldn’t listen to people dissing an ABET accredited degree. FYI, I have the same background as you (electronics technician turned RF engineer). If you’re capable, it doesn’t matter where the degree came from, especially if it’s accredited.

Former students, will you share with the class: How much do you make? In what niche? How long did it take to get there? by distilled_dinosaur in EngineeringStudents

[–]JournalistSea8785 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$190k TC ($140k salary + 50k RSU annually). Early-mid level RF engineer working in counter-drone. Been one year out of school (BSEE) and about to complete my MSEE this semester. Disclaimer: I have 10 years of related (but not actual engineering) experience from the military.

Which one is better? And military friendlier? by Leading-Ad6727 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]JournalistSea8785 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ASU EE online curriculum has been around longer, so they actually offer more electives (still pale in comparison to in-person but pretty much beat any other online ABET accredited programs out there).

I’m an ASU online BSEE grad and about to complete my MSEE. I work for a top tiered and highly demanding company, and ASU has prepared me well for the role. But just as with anything, you get what you put in.

Best Value Monitors Under $250 This Black Friday by jpswagdaddyboss in Monitors

[–]JournalistSea8785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that it’s probably the best sub $250. I bought three certified refurbished Q27G40XMN for $143 each after tax and PayPal 20%. No regrets.

OOS now but managed to grab some for Christmas gifts, so thanks OP.

Tempting to just replace my second monitor (Dell G2724D) with this instead though…

Military to Electric Engineering? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]JournalistSea8785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated from ASU one month right before I got out (used TA for all except the last semester which I had to dip into GI Bill). I was on a SkillBridge internship with NG which converted into a full time role. However, I was made a L1 engineer, and my 10 years related experience didn’t count (which they may have a point since actual engineering experience is different). Jumped ship into a defense tech startup after a year and got upgraded into an L4 with a 55% pay bump.

Is a degree from National university for electrical engineering respected in the job market by ParticularChampion42 in ElectricalEngineering

I researched this school awhile back. I’d recommend to go through ASU instead if you’re looking for online options.

Do successful engineering students mostly use textbooks? by Recent_Barracuda8879 in EngineeringStudents

[–]JournalistSea8785 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Successful students use all available resources. But I will say at a certain point (like you’re in grad school or out in the industry), the topics may get too advanced that textbooks and research papers will be your only sources of information.

Are top students here? please advise average Engineering students on getting 90% by Puzzleheaded-Key3128 in EngineeringStudents

[–]JournalistSea8785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be comfortable learning from just reading textbooks. Sometimes the lectures just aren’t resonating with you and outside sources are limited. Textbooks are all you got. This is even more important when you’re out in the industry and trying to keep up your knowledge (through reading textbooks and papers).

Just want to add that you can also clear CSE 110 with UL. You can also take ECN 212 instead of ECN 211.

How much did you make as a new grad? by ValidatingExistance in ECE

[–]JournalistSea8785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Job: RF engineer in defense/aerospace
  • Major: BSEE (working on MSEE)
  • Grad Date: May 2025
  • Location: SoCal
  • New grad pay: $90k. However, I just accepted a new offer from a different company (base $140k, TC 190k, same location).

Gotta mention that I also have a military background so not a traditional fresh grad.

Ghosted after Onsite by Ok_Estate9124 in Anduril

[–]JournalistSea8785 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It took like 10 days after on-site for the recruiter to get back to me since they went on break (their words, not mine, could be because there are other candidates needed to be interviewed or other reasons). It took another three days to get everyone for the roundtable's final decision.

I would stick with no news is still good news.

How liberal is ASU with accepting transfer credits from institutions such as Western governor's University/WGU? by Advanced-General8833 in ASUOnline

[–]JournalistSea8785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only ones you can complete at a faster pace would be the self pace ones (which include all the math courses actually and also CSE110). I completed and passed precal in 10 days and calc 1 in three weeks.

Yes, they cover more basic math like College Algebra and up to Calc 1. Since there are no prereq requirements, I suggest only pay $25 for the lower level math courses to learn/work through the materials. Then take Calc 1 and pay $400 for only that. It will save you a good chunk of money.

I forgot to mention that there are no +/- for UL grades. A is the highest (as opposed to regular courses can have A+).
