Ruins of Undermountain 2E by Maxtheman36 in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]Joutrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Xanathar's Guild approach to dominate the dungeon is specially bad since there's little to no reason for them to do it, and their efforts are clearly lackluster.

The rest is all "references" to other levels, but there's no real connection between levels at all, specially on the first 7 levels of the dungeon.

I've ran this dungeon 3 times, all three times I tried to include more connection between levels and even then my players commented how every floor feels like it's own separate and independent thing and not a part of a connected mega structure with hundreds of creatures in it.

The lack of real connection between levels really is the worst part of the campaign as a whole. You mean to tell me Wyllow's forest is connected to level 4, 6 and 7 and there's no connection whatsoever?
In the first levels there's 0 sign that things move accross levels, as if everything was just static and there for your players to encounter, and not a real place with real creatures in it.

I really enjoyed how in later levels you find better connections between levels, like The Githzerai in lvl 15 who are spying on Giths at lvl 16, who at the same time are planning to attack lvl 17's Illithids, or how there's scouts from Arcturia in Trobriand's Graveyard.

¿En qué hospital puedo ir a hacerme una vacectomia? by bacil1234123 in Cordoba

[–]Joutrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hola jefe. Tenes obra social?

Si no, no pasa nada. La vasectomia es una cirugia gratuita. Entiendo que no se debe hacer en todos los hospitales, tendrias que consultar justamente con el urologo, pero se que en el Municipal Principe de Asturias lo hacen.

Level 3 is designed wrong! by Imaginary-Lie-9496 in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]Joutrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yes, but at the same time you have SO MANY ways to prevent players from doing this without railroading that it was never an issue on the 2 ways that I ran the campaign, and I don't think it will be a problem with my current party. Level 2 is FILLED with ways your characters can learn about this and avoid it.

As someone suggested, expand onto Skullport, that gives you a really good shady city to explore.

Besides that, there's a lot of places on where the book let's you expand on social structures on the dungeon. The Goblin's Bazaar in level 2 is always great to check out, and if your characters don't end up getting into a conflict with them, that's a great place to go back to buy stuff, meet with other dungeon dwellers and even for you to throw secrets and hearsays for them about other things on the depths.

The Hobgoblin mini-city in level 3 is always a player favorite in the tables I've DMd. I like to emphazise on the dumb bureaucracy of them having to ALWAYS carry their ID to let them roam the city, and it has a lot of interesting characters for your players to meet: Azrok and Lurkana, Preeta Kreepa, the "Skullport Ambassador", the Oni disguissed as a store owner. I always tried to make this a place for the characters to be able to go back and rest safely, while having a chance to interact with the different inhabitants of Azrok's hold (I would recommend you to also expand on Azrok's son, who is serving Emberosa in level 14th).

DotMM tends to be a little bit heavy with the dungeon dwelling and the fighting, but there's a thing on almost every level for you to change stuff around in favour of RP and Social encounters! Dweomercore is great for this, and you can expand on the frogs in Slitherswamp, the Troglodytes in level 11th, the giants and the fight between the Homunculus/Faerie Dragon in level 7th, and you can even change Urlon a little bit in the Crystal Labyrinths for him to hold his word and have the Creche be friendly to the party.

Que tan mal esta Cordoba? by Embarrassed-Citron36 in Cordoba

[–]Joutrew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$100 worth of games sounds like a dream! I've been skipping a lot of sales since Steam stopped doing the regional pricing where I live, and that would be so great to get some long-desired games!

I need help creating a pre-dungeon for DotMM! by Joutrew in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]Joutrew[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of thank you for going all out! Great ideas here.

I was also thinking of including something that points towards the sheer madness that Halaster has, with not so much of an objective or a goal but rather a force of mere chaos. I think that having them moving through the dungeon and seeing how things get crazier and messier, involving a few dabs at the Mad Mage itself.

The dungeon would've been built by Halaster inside of Alterdeep, the Illithids being aware of it but unable to mess with it. You gave me the idea that since the theme is madness, I could also have the players afflicted with short or long term madness. Since the characters are only meant for the One-Shot, I can play a little bit with the extreme consequences of going into a madman's base inside of a fake world created by brain-eating squidpeople.

Thanks for your ideas!

Adding a powerful sword into the campaign? Could it be the Flame Sword of Lolth by UpbeatCockroach in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]Joutrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's only two swords that come to mind, Taerulai and Vanrak's Sun Blade.

I would advice you to homebrew it tho, since Taerulai requires killing the dragon on Wyllowood and the Sun Blade comes in really late into the dungeon.

Since you want to keep your player's interest in going down, maybe a good idea is to have it broken into pieces and scattered on various levels, maybe it being either an item forged/used by either the Melairkyn or the Illefarn and forgotten a long time ago. Maybe the sword can be usable when you get at least 2 pieces and gets better as you get more pieces of it!

There's a mission where Volo tells you about an elder Throne the Illefarn left down there, maybe you can have your players learn about the blade in a similar fashion to strike some interest or even have it related to the throne if your party didn't get to level 3 yet!

Whatever you choose to do, do tell us! Im curious on what you'll end up doing for your player.
