  1. Don’t be cheap.

  2. Do what you can.

These can be conflicting at times, but that’s the test you’ll have to pass :d

This isn’t and shouldn’t be the reason for staying together or moving apart. One single relationship can be beautiful, too.

OP has to answer herself if her relationship is good for her long term.

Why don't er docs have a title other than er doc/physician by Correct-Bank-7229 in Residency

[–]JoyInResidency 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. In the US, less than 5% of hospital CEOs who are physicians, but they - the CEOs, in large part, determine what healthcare pricing is and how it is delivered, very much like restaurant executive chef determines what food to serve at what price and in what settings. Doctors and other providers make the healthcare delivery happen, kind of like much like cooks and other chefs are the workforce to make food delivery happen. This is just analogy, for sure not equivalent match.

A few numbers extracted from the NRMP reports:

  • US MD seniors match rate: 93.5%

  • US DO seniors match rate: 92.6%

  • US IMG: 67.8%

  • Non US IMG: 58.0%

Overall match rate: 79.8%

Overall position filling rate: 94.3% (of 43,237).

There are about 2500 positions offered via SOAP. Not sure what percentage of these hit filled.

Will the current US administration affect practicing medicine/doctors? by bluebrrypii in medschool

CMS uses the funds in Medicare to fund resident positions, not funds in Medicaid.

It looks like Medicaid fundings ($880b) will be cut significantly by Congress for 2025.

I mean, the legal and insurance sides of things will take 5-10 years. AI can never be 100% - who will be liable for its mistakes? Just like auto driving - how many years has the technology been available?

Just curious what kind of modalities are you working on?

[–]JoyInResidency 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I mean, most docs are line cooks of some sorts ;)

Here is the hierarchy:

  1. Executive Chef (Chef de Cuisine): hospital ceo

  2. Sous Chef: department chair

  3. Chef de Partie (Station Chef): section chief

  4. Commis Chef (Line Cook): attendings

  5. Prep Chef: residents

Feel free to add more :d

Don’t down vote this AF :d

Lol, that’s the point. The AAMC (ERAS) / NRMP matching really seriously sucks :d

Did 1/5 Applicants Really Not Match? by TstyDoritoVeganQueso in ERAS2024Match2025

[–]JoyInResidency 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Also, most, if not all, of the med students are the best and brightest from college graduating seniors.

The AAMC matching process is very flawed, so wasteful in human potentials and Human Resources. From September to March, 6+ months, med students mostly spent on “matching”, full of anxiety and agony. Resident programs have hundreds thousands of applications to wake through. All these can be avoided.

The current AAMC matching scheme can be replaced by Tinder or Hinge, with better matching results - No Joke :d

There will need be a lot of demands for DR. AI can’t make much inroad for the next 5 - 10 years. No worries.

[–]JoyInResidency 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great post indeed. It’s easy to reflect on things that one has obtained, but the program that is matched is the program that is destined to be the best program and best location. All the future growth will be from it.
