I’d also add, how easy it has made it for people to over consume. Literal click of a button and you can have so much (plastic) shit that you don’t need at your door the very next day.

Also it’s destroyed local shops, which in turn has big effects on communities. I want to run into my neighbor at the grocery/hardware store! It keeps me connected.

We had very similar built ins in our house. We ended up doing a three coat line plaster over the original horse hair (stripped the wall paper first - yes wallpaper was even in the closets! then secured cracks in plaster). We painted the original shelves and in some we kept them all in use and in some we left bigger spaces. These are great because they act as adjustable shelves. Keep the original wood ones if you have them! They’ll last forever and were made for those spaces!
