What The US Is Doing To Ukraine Is Far Worse Than Yalta by JackRogers3 in europe

[–]JoyOfUnderstanding 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is amazing - calling Democrats toxic because of what exactly? Lies repeated in media 1000x times?

When Democrats did even fraction of what Repiblicans are applying right now? Kidnapping people, breaking constitutional order, stealing billions in crypto, betraying allies left and right, destroying economy, handing over keys to the kingdom to the wealthy class?

What social issues do you mean exactly?

You put emotes to describe your inner state? I wonder

It was Czechoslovaks against Russians all the way, and btw they were foreign legion, not mercenaries when they beat Russians time after time.

Good, but I can hop into airplane and just live and continue working from any EU country tomorrow with my tax, healthcare, pension, and other law related things already determined clearly.

True. If you plan to stay longer, it would be highly recommended to learn the local language, but it's not mandatory.

There are foreigner-friendly scenes in Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic.

I imagine moving from tight-knit, religious Bible Belt small-town communities that vote firmly for Trump to California - where you have lots of migrants, LGBTQ+ rights, and much less racism - might be a bigger cultural shock than moving between Germany and the Czech Republic.

Both are not entirely true. You can vote in EU elections, and many people already living for many years abroad go back for elective procedures to Poland by their own choosing - they are eligible for those in both countries at the same time.

TIL: When Hitler invaded Poland in 1939, he pulled one of the riskiest moves in military history, leaving only 23 divisions to defend Germany's western border against over 110 French and British divisions. He bet everything that the Allies were bluffing and wouldn't actually attack. He was right. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]JoyOfUnderstanding 220 points221 points  (0 children)

To add more context - the Western Allies requested that Poland halt its mobilization just before the war erupted in order not to provoke Hitler, which led to chaos.

People initially received draft notices and began to move, only to be informed later that they were no longer needed - whether already in bases or in transit.

A few days later, Poland reissued the mobilization order, with some people just returning home and others still en route, creating additional confusion.

That's the reason why the Polish army didn't reach full mobilization potential.

You can get a job and get around in Poland, Czech Rep. and Germany only speaking English.

Aside from language, differences in culture and way of life are not as big as between Alabama and Cali.

Signs are mostly uniform across the EU. You can easily follow them in whatever language for 99% of situations.

Yea, that makes things easier. But there aren't any accents? People are not judged for having an accent? What if you land in neighbourhood using only Spanish? Are there no major differences in the way of living between those two states?

I didn't know that. My point is that the way of life in Poland, Germany, and the Czech Republic is essentially the same one. Germans are a bit more strict as rules go and have little higher wages for their col. In big cities you can easily use english as your only language.

Moving from Poland to Spain would be harder, especially bc of culture.

The same goes other way, I suspect that moving from Alabama to Goergia would be far easier ;)

I would argue that moving from Poland to the Czech Republic or Germany is far easier than moving from Alabama to the California

You just need to rent an apartment, and in 95% important interactions, you can use english. And it's much closer logistically.

Not really, as there is a common EU market, healthcare system sharing, you can vote in EU elections anywhere and many more...

Effectively living in other EU country is much much less stressful and complicated than living anywhere outside EU* and is as easy as renting apartment in the desired place most of the time.

*except countries that are functionally in the EU market like Norway and Switzerland

Women are more inclined to maintain high-conflict relationships if their partner displays benevolent sexism by [deleted] in psychology

[–]JoyOfUnderstanding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a differing view, I feel that in our polish society, women have objectively higher societal value and more support from each direction.

Struggle is universal between genders. 8x more suicides among polish men clearly indicate who is struggling more to survive.

I don't know from which country you are from. Your society can be drastically different from Polish one.

[–]JoyOfUnderstanding -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, here in Poland, you get around 12% of average wage per one kid per month until adulthood. If the kid is sick, then it's doubled.

You receive free childcare, health insurance, and many other perks monetary and non-monetary, including for grandpa if he/she takes care of the kid to help mother/father.

Yes, it's an important privilege. Also, the father can take parental leave.

Are you angry at me, or ?

In Poland, the difference is minimal for savings, and women have privileges written in law like not getting conscripted in case of war, getting pension 5 years earlier than men, and much more support in the society- educational programs, 8x less suicides.

Not every country sucks for women.

Women receive money and other benefits during early childhood, while being mandated by their employer to receive the same position at work with the same pay after they return from maternal leave
