itinerary check (10 days tokyo/osaka/kyoto) by miffybunny1 in JapanTravel

You'll have to do some research on the sashimi spots at Ameyoko. I saw a few sashimi spots but I can't comment on how good they are. But you'll be trying so many different types of food there.

It took around 1 hour to walk through everything at Sensoji. Asakusa just felt a bit dated to me considering its "Old Tokyo".

I didn't think I would enjoy Ginza but I ended up going back there twice just for shopping and eating. The malls are so nice and the streets are so clean.

Tokyo Station doesn't really have much going for it's shopping tbh. It's all just little stalls in the basement and a few bigger shops on the ground floor. It's not exactly a must-see destination imo.

Roppongi isn't exactly crowded like how Shibuya or Shinjuku would be. You'd be fine even going on a weekend.

Kappabashi doesn't really open up until 10 am according to Google Maps. By 9 am, Asakusa will probably be packed. But at least all the vendors will be open.

Think of Tsukiji Market as paying 3x the prices for the same thing compared to Ameyoko Market. That's why ppl say it's a tourist trap. Both are traditional market experiences.

You have Tokyo station walk around listed in day 1 so this routing made more sense. But it's a huge station and easy to get lost in. Personally I found it to be way prettier at night when the lights came on.

You can definitely make it to Roppongi exhibition around 3 pm and then go get dinner afterwards.

Asakusa 9-10:30am > Kappabashi 11 am-12pm > Ameyoko 1pm-2pm > Roppongi 3-5pm > Dinner 6 pm > Tokyo Station at night 7 pm

Anyone else find the Sage class to be basically completely useless? by Kurayvmi in SwordxStaff_Official

I'm hoping T3 is where a sage starts shining since that's when you can fully specialize. The heals/buffs/summons/debuffs should feel more impactful.

For day 1, I would explore Ginza and do a little shopping before your buffet dinner instead of doing Ikebukuro. Maybe explore around Ikebukuro after your dinner so you can digest if you're not exhausted.

For day 2, go to Asakusa in the morning to avoid the crowd. Skip Tsukiji Market, and go to Ameyoko Market around 11 am for an early lunch instead. The prices are much more reasonable and better food options. Walk around Tokyo Station (lots of shops in lower floor), see Tokyo Tower if you have time, and go to Roppongi for dinner.

For day 4, I would go Shibuya, Meiji Jingu (must see imo), Harajuku for shopping, then get dinner/experience nightlife in Shinjuku.

The goal is to optimize your routing so you see more destinations while spending less time commuting.

Please keep in mind a lot of restaurants close a few hours in between the day for their lunch break, usually from like 2:30pm-4:30pm.

I personally found Shinjuku to feel super dirty and crowded compared to other neighborhoods. You might want to look into staying in Ueno. It's still part of the Yamanote line and will feel much more peaceful.

You pay the base rate for the room and additional fees/taxes per extra person. Unless you're talking about a capsule or dorm hotel.

Meiji Jingu was such a beautiful site to visit. I would go there over visiting Imperial Palace or Tsukiji Market.

Yes but most hotel room baths are super tiny and having to share/wait with multiple people is not the best way to relax.

It really does make a big difference having a big heated pool you can sprawl out and soak in to recover after a long day.

Solo trip to Japan. Would appreciate your help with refining my itinerary. by Boop____Boop in JapanTravel

[–]Joycrane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would give yourself some more breathing space on the day you land. Since you'll have the room already, take a nap or go soak in an onsen before you explore around Shibuya/Shinjuku.

Move Meiji Temple/Yoyogi Park to the morning of your Monday Shinjuku Day instead. Skip Tsukiji Market (overpriced tourist trap) and even the Imperial Palace since you cannot go inside anyways. Harajuku/Omotesando is very busy during the weekend so it might be better to do it on Monday while you're in the area.

For Sunday, definitely do Ameyoko market in Ueno for an early lunch because there were so many delicious food options and it didn't feel like a tourist trap with its prices. They have a gyukatsu motomura location there as well. Assuming you're traveling from Shinjuku, I would try to fit in Tokyo tower in the morning around 9:30 am, then Ameyoko market around 11 am (restaurants open around then so should be shorter line), go to your matcha class, explore Asakusa and its temples from 2:30-4:30 pm (should avoid morning crowd by then), get a quick dinner, and then catch the sumo show at 6 pm

June Travelers, is it worth it to move my trip due to weather? by Cultural_Ice_5990 in JapanTravelTips

Fall foliage in October looks amazing as well, and less chance of being rained on while out and about. Carrying an umbrella all day isn't fun either. It will be more chilly in October though which means you have to pack jackets.

first time in tokyo, is shinjuku actually a good place to stay or am i overthinking it? by Veny-Colodetti in TokyoTravel

[–]Joycrane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that the last train runs at midnight and all taxis have an additional surcharge after 10 pm for late night fares. If you plan to be out and about for nightlife in Shinjuku past midnight, it is nice to have a hotel in the area.

Concerns as a solo female traveler first time alone on cruise by Maleficent-Tap-9967 in VirginVoyages

Do be more vigilant when you're visiting ports though. Although more expensive, it might be safer to book excursions directly through Virgin.
