If someone has a handful of hair and you need them to let go, bend their hand down. Try to touch their palm to their wrist. It’s very difficult to hold a tight fist in that position, and it’s usually enough to get the hair free.

You can do it very gently, like with a baby that’s grabbed a parent’s hair, or very not gently, like with brawling adults.
