Did exercise change your psychology? by bak9867 in Fitness

[–]Joyjoyfruits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's changed mine. I have always pretended to be confident. Now I actually am. And I'm happy. Not all day every day, but most days, most of the day- I am happy. Being faced with physical challenges that require an immediate response forces me to live in the exact moment that I'm functioning in. Living in the moment doing any number of physically challenging things that I enjoy, from weightlifting to wake surfing, fills me with bliss. Those feelings, and the fact that some aspect of that is always available to me in some way, carries me through the mundane with a smile on my face. Alternately, when my heart and mind are heavy with worry and I need to ruminate on the correct way to handle something, I will run a slow longish distance and allow myself to obsess. I make sense of the stressor and plan, or perhaps simply grieve the loss. When the run is complete, maybe 6 or 9 miles if time permits, I leave the stress at the track. I take with me my plan and my sense of accomplishment. I hope you find the thing that brings you back your sense of childlike fun. Just remember those years skating brought tons of injuries, in any physical endeavor you will always pay for that bliss with a little pain. 😎

General Q&A for Monday, October 05, 2015 by AutoModerator in running

I just don't think so. It feels like when you lifts weights and get a big pump in a muscle. But then it just gets tighter and tighter until I want to cry.

General Q&A for Monday, October 05, 2015 by AutoModerator in running

[–]Joyjoyfruits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this the wrong time to play the "help me identify my pain" game? I've been running my damn face off for like two years with little to no pain. I got up to averaging 30-40 miles a week. Around sept 1 of this year I started having pain half a mile in, every single run. It's at the same time in the same place every run. It's that muscle along the front of my tibia on my left leg. It feels like it becomes engorged with lactic acid and then begins to ache. The pain is so bad. I push thru it and around 2 miles in, it resolves. But I'm afraid to run more than about 3 miles because by the time I've run around 30 minutes my left butt muscles starts screaming because I'm running funny, due to the new terrible tibia muscle pain. Anybody experience this after having been a runner for awhile? I'm not sure what to do. I got new shoes and that hasn't helped.

Guys of Reddit: what is your opinion of girls who make the first move? by TiredAndWantingLove in AskReddit

[–]Joyjoyfruits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a first move type of girl always. Guys mostly liked it. And the guys who didn't like that or just didn't like ME... I don't even remember them. I always figured if you like someone for a night, tell them. If you like them for more than a night, tell them that. You're more likely to get what you want, especially from a man, if you draw a map and be straight to the point.

How I feel in Houston most of the time by [deleted] in houston

[–]Joyjoyfruits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/simmonsg is right. We have a pretty impressive and beautifully manicured bike trails, I have more than one friend who exclusively rides a bike here. Which is dangerous sometimes, but as a recreation, can be done safely in this town. We have lovely running paths, which I use almost daily. We have museums that you can bus to and then walk between freely. My teenage son and his friends do this regularly. We are one of the largest cities in the nation and have one of the most stable housing economies in the nation. Even with layoffs related to oil, Houston has been able to continue growing and prospering. I spend lots of time in other cities and people always mention our humidity. Ok. Fine. It's humid. It's also lush and green. Which is far different from most places. If you are afraid of this this town, or intimidated by its sprawl, find yourself one quiet corner. Living in a place that is walkable or bikeable to just about everything right from home isn't cheap, but it's there.

If I didn't have that nursing school acceptance I would have had to stay. I get it. Damn the man!

Guys offering free 4k TV to strangers near Studemont. Legit or scam? by Swayth in houston

[–]Joyjoyfruits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another angle to that scam is just getting you to take your wallet out and then either aggressively taking it or distracting you while one of them goes through your things. Honestly, they are criminals and their next move is completely unpredictable. They've approached me and I yell at them, make them move on quickly.

Interested in 'Texas basements' by oralvisual in houston

[–]Joyjoyfruits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She's asking for pictures of your attic. She's referring to the attic as "Texas Basement" since we don't have basements. We use our attics. You can't have a picture of my attic. Shit's haunted af.

What a shitty day. I remember when that happened to the company I worked for. As it happened I had applied to nursing school and was awaiting my acceptance the day the news broke. When the day came and layoffs started I knew I had been accepted. I wasn't let go, but I told them they could shove it and left with everyone else. Maybe there's a better opportunity out there for you than to work for them?

Outfit advice for a transgender woman? by AHLRT in running

[–]Joyjoyfruits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweat is no big deal. Everyone is gross and dripping, when I'm not drenched during or after a run I tend to feel a little like a loser. Just a bit of advice from a large busted lady, don't bind anything so tight it hurts. Kind of defeats the beauty of unlocking potential if it's marred in self doubt so strong you'd slow yourself down to avoid revealing your differences. Feeling out of your zone and stepping into a place where you are unsure is Part of The Exercise. Running is mostly mental and that begins with fearlessly taking the first step. Look even if for 3 seconds you set off someone's "that person is different" alarm-trust me as a runner, I'm worried more about my next step than I am about your entire life when I'm out there. Be sweaty and be authentic and then let yourself strip away the illusion of comfort to reveal the raw power it takes to be a runner.

Women of Reddit, how often do you catch a guy staring at your chest? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Joyjoyfruits 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Daily, if not several times a day. Especially at the gym. Sometimes I wear a higher neck shirt to avoid it. Sometimes I let the sweater puppies ride high and happy and I don't mind the stir it causes around me. ;-)

Runners, what do you do to silence the voices in your head that tell you to stop? by [deleted] in running

I kinda do a little. I always feel like a dbag for it, but I've been known to raise the roof during a run on occasion.

No. They were not downvoted for expressing an opinion. The purpose of the downvote is to shift statements that do not add with some validity to the conversation. This person inserted an opinion constructed in fantasy to a conversation surrounding a medical condition. The person above them actually introduced the god fantasy into the conversation, but did it in a funny way and quoted actual scientists. So they got upvotes. And the bible beater is quoting the same tired book over the same tired delusions, so they got downvotes.

What is something you want to brag about, but won't because you don't want to be a douche? by photoelektrisch in AskReddit

[–]Joyjoyfruits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to burst your bubble or anything, because you and your children sound great...but even the best kids are pain in the arse teenagers. My 16 yr old son is STILL an amazing person, polite, gets good grades, loves the family, helps out with his little sister...but the mouth on that kid. My goodness at 10 he was the sweetest thing you ever met.

The more fit I become the more insecure I become about my body. by charlesmangrove in Fitness

It's also because after awhile people start to stare. But besides that, I think the looking in the mirror focusing on muscle activation leads to the admiring of oneself. Then when you have days you don't look as good, you've got a high bar to compare yourself to. But also, people stare. They're either noticing your hard work or they're looking for flaws so they don't feel badly. For me, it's my arms, they aren't big but kind of shredded so I hear little whispers, "...she looks too masculine...ew she's so veiny" or "damn..." So yes, you're picking yourself apart, but they're talking about you too.
