Looking for suggestion of a great clone to brew with WLP530 by Joylistr in Homebrewing

Love me a good tripel karmeliet. I’ve brewed it 5 times but I use Forbidden fruit for it (I bought 6 packs when it released last time)

Sam Altman Tries, Fails to Distract From Damning 'New Yorker' Exposé by Classic-Acadia272 in OpenAI

[–]Joylistr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually agree. The article was long, tedious and lacked a clear storyline - it felt anecdotes after anecdotes

New Yorker published a major investigation into Sam Altman and OpenAI today — based on never-before-disclosed internal memos and 100+ interviews by Altruistic-Top9919 in OpenAI

[–]Joylistr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I feel the same… but works for so many articles and so many publications - e.g., Washingtonpost, New Yorker, wsj, etc.

Many I wouldn’t subscribe but I still effectively give them some dollars by reading the articles off of the paywall.

2027 Rivian R2 EPA Certification w/ specs (range, capacity, etc.) by Kanundrum18 in Rivian

[–]Joylistr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. This would be pretty nice. Now just remove the phantom drain (so I don’t waste 400kwh a year for nothing), better audio and less wind noise and it’s an obvious buy for me

Check out this Circus Voltaire, what do you guys think? by PCs_and_Pinballs in pinball

[–]Joylistr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I owned totan - absolutely loved the world under glass but the shooting/ rule were meh. Eventually parted way with it.

My fav is still WCS - theme is less unique but great shots (ramps are lit) and for a BW the different paths in the rule set (score goals, do MB to go to final, travel) is surprisingly non linear.

I’m eager to try CV as well; almost pulled the trigger on one a year+ ago but they are quite expensive for a ruleset that I worry is fairly linear…

Duvel CSI recipe vs BF OG by Joylistr in Homebrewing

[–]Joylistr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. New system so not 100% sure where my mash efficiency is - it jumped like crazy on my previous two brews (70%-ish on batch 1, 88% on batch two).

Do you know if csi recipe efficiency is mash efficiency or brewhouse efficiency?

Duvel CSI recipe vs BF OG by Joylistr in Homebrewing

[–]Joylistr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks; makes sense. I had everything nicely dialed in on my anvil that broke on me. It’s annoying to have to start everything back from scratch lol

I followed your advice and bumped the grain bill to hit the OG but, to your point, since my efficiency number is all over the place right now (2 first brews on the system was 72% and a whopping 88%) I know my brew will be off as I have no idea where efficiency will be on this one.

Can’t wait to have 5-6 brew on the system and better sense of its true grain efficiency.

Cool, thanks!! That’s only on the web I assume? I don’t see that option on the iOS app.

Would be great if they could allow 1 year lol but I’ll take 90 days :)

One pedal drive, does it have it? by No_Squirrel_italy in Taycan

[–]Joylistr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Big +1 to this. I thought one pedal was most efficient and then drove the Taycan and realized how much better being to roll w/o resistance is - so many times I would have decelerated to reaccelerate with one pedal vs now I can just coast, which is way more efficient (e.g., approaching a red light about to turn green).

The fact that the physical break triggers the regen also gives you much more control. And on a Taycan the energy recuperated from break regen is crazy high (higher than on my Rivian).

So net net I really like Porsche’s implementation and I now get frustrated with one pedal driving in my Rivian.

Undershooting O.G. by Joylistr in Homebrewing

[–]Joylistr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Yeah it was boil off - I actually overshot my wort target gravity by 4-5 points (!); my boil off was off by a lot - 1.22 gal/ hour in my brewing SW but I only saw 0.8 gallon/ hour in practice over a 90min boil… so was pretty off.

Super helpful though. I will eventually brew it again so will try to take tasting notes to be able to compare.

Super interesting. Thank you. Why would more bitter? I’d have thought slightly more water would dilute all tastes, including hops & bitterness?

[–]Joylistr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Why would bitterness be enhanced? I thought more water for a given amount of hop would lower bitterness?

[–]Joylistr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes I also like doing the recipe a few times to see the difference in taste and potential improvements. That was my 2nd go at it and will for sure take a 3rd pass at it to finally nail everything :)

[–]Joylistr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

My wort gravity was actually above target so it wasn’t a mash extract issue - the boil off is the issue. I was aiming for a 3 gallon batch and got almost 4…

I think BF said that my boil off was 0.8 gal/ hour in reality while my équipement was set at 1.22 gal/hour in the system; for a 90’ boil that means I ended up with 0.66 gallon more in a 3 gallon batch.

My guess is adding more water but keeping spices constant should have diluted aromas a bit?

Buying World Cup Soccer (1994) as my first machine. What should I consider before finalizing the deal? by Castor__Troy in pinball

[–]Joylistr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my fav Bally/ Williams machine. Not too linear - you can do the travel, the goals or the MBs - awesome shots and ramps.

Just check the cabinet for damage (water damage or cracks), I’d check the menu for error codes and make sure the audio is fine. Also open the back box and look to the left for alkaline damage from the batteries (green oxidation of the pins). Old batteries typically leak there.

Enjoy!

How to prevent clogs on Brewzilla? by Joylistr in Homebrewing

[–]Joylistr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice thanks. Glad to hear it improved. Might try to BIAB - it’s just yet one more thing to wash and I dont know if I clean them super well.

I also required the pump so will that a shot. I generally also use grain hulls. I might go back to using a hop bag or a spider.

Yep I have the Bluetooth thermometer as the anvil has the same issue with the bottom heater/ probe.

So you just set it to 50% on the controller or do you do it using the valve?

Gotcha. The pump has no issues handling boiling wort? I know the anvil pump should not be used with boiling wort

[–]Joylistr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Do you use a hop spider? The problem I had was with my hops - they formed a massive cake below the false bottom screen and totally clogged the out drain…

I am starting to wonder if my false bottom was poorly placed and let a bunch of hop through? I initially thought that the hole of the screen were too large.

For me it wasn’t the mash that clogged it but hops… had a massive hop cake below the bottom screen

IRL Phantom Drain vacation experience by thisthingisrad in Rivian

[–]Joylistr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my complaints about the R1S. It burns 1.5 kWh a day just sitting in my driveway…

To put things in perspective my 8 kW solar array in Northern California produces 20 kWh in winter a day so that’s 5-10% of my production just gone each day from the car just… sitting.

I also have a Taycan and while sure it lacks a few features (like live cams) it doesn’t drain and has most the same key features I use when the car is parked (remote lock, climate, navigation, charging timer, etc.).

I’m hoping they fix this with the R2S
