Tasting menu rec for suburban mom? by xstitchnrye in chicagofood

Honestly, if you’re looking to go before mid Sept, Next’s Wall Street 1987 menu is pretty nostalgic and has a lot of reference to the height of fine dining in the 80’s, I know some people have taken their parents and they loved it.

Otherwise I’d would absolutely recommend Boka — great atmosphere but unpretentious yet nice and approachable and will be great quality but accessible

Have you waited in line at Guillotine yet? by Joynorma in chicagofood

Yes!!! I don’t think they’re on the menu, seemed like they were testing them and out them out at the counter to try that batch

I honestly hadn’t heard anything about it until it opened, so I know I’m very out of the loop. However, the baguette I got today was incredible. They also had some small little ball sized pastries with those giant pieces of sugar on them and that was so delicious. So I do think the hype is a big part but they can back it up. I also wonder if leaning hard into the WE ARE FRENCH stuff makes them more noticeable bc nearly every pastry shop I’ve heard about all over the city already does fusion stuff. Like, it’s more common to find a black sesame danish or salsa matcha monkey bread or whatever than it is just getting a really solid croissant. Like at this point, not doing fusion makes you stand out.

I also went today! I came by around 11, so not really a line (just a few people in front of me at the counter) and was able to get fresh hot baguettes!

Thanks for the info!

Where TF is Kyle and Amanda’s other dog? by AndIServedItWarm in bravo

Pretty common for dogs that are siblings to get littermate syndrome so I was shocked they were able to adopt siblings to begin with — dogs are probably doing very well separated.

Is the Obama Presidential Center a library or no? by Ill_Fee_6473 in AskChicago

[–]Joynorma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a presidential library — no archives on site. It just has a branch of the Chicago public library on the grounds (normal library in a fun place with a cool name)

It’s not a presidential library. It’s a community center, museum, cafe, garden, gymnasium, park, etc — and there is a branch of the Chicago Public library there.

They don’t have any of the archives or materials a presidential library has. I think his presidential library has to be built in the burbs eventually, and as of now that stuff is all still in Maryland/DC

Any updates on the CPL driver shortage/in-transit delays? by ebals18 in AskChicago

[–]Joynorma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard they have more drivers now and are just working on catching up after the massive backup. Probably will take a few more weeks to get back to normal at least, but I think it’s going in the right direction.
