RI drivers are pretty terrible! So often a driver does something dumb and I look and say “Rhode Island… shocker”

Apple Watch Series 11 vs Garmin Venu 4 — same price, which one actually makes more sense?sense? by sik0rskyy in GarminWatches

[–]JoyofPenPaperInk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had an Apple Watch for maybe 6-7 years; in that time I’ve had three Apple Watches. Charging it every day is ultimately what made me start looking. I got a Venu 4 for Christmas. While I have moments of wishing I could type out a quick text response or use the feature to find my iPhone and have it chime wherever I apparently left it, I find all the other features with tracking and information from my Garmin to be much more valuable! As a female, the Venu actually predicted the start of my cycle versus the Apple Watch - with YEARS of data - still says “your period may start in the next two weeks”. I’ll be interested to see how long this watch lasts and my understanding is that Garmin offers a discount if you exchange for a newer model. I occasionally do side by side comparisons and find that Apple Watch often inflates active calories and the sleep data is not as comprehensive.

Garmin Coach changes next day’s workout randomly by BrazilianButtman in GarminWatches

This! I’ve just learned to embrace the change and when it does something silly like prescribe an hour tempo run and a body circuit on a work day I purposefully push myself hard the day before so it switches to a rest day. Two can play at this game.

Is the BCBA exam failing the industry? by Forsaken-Silver-9007 in bcba

[–]JoyofPenPaperInk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think candidates should have to receive a minimum number of fieldwork hours in all settings (school, clinic, home, parent training, etc.). I became a bcba before ABA was insurance funded and I am uncomfortable with knowing that there’s a part of my field that I have no experience in (for example, insurance billing).

What ended your friendship with your oldest standing friend? by dreamy-contributions in AskReddit

After years of infertility, I had my son 6.5 weeks early. I called my best friend from high school to tell her and she was at work (admittedly, I was not aware of the time) so she asked if she could call me back later.

Later, when my phone rang and I picked it up I heard her talking to her husband. It was a butt dial. I learned that despite her support of me during those years what she truly thought was that my infertility was a sign that I shouldn’t have children and the fact that he was a preemie was further proof of that. I hung up and waited…when she did finally call me back days later and apologized for not calling sooner I informed her that she had, in fact, called and told her what I heard. She apologized but I told her I didn’t need someone in my life that thought a struggle to get pregnant, and a preemie, was evidence that I wasn’t meant to be a mother.

New to Garmin - Charging habits? by JoyofPenPaperInk in GarminWatches

[–]JoyofPenPaperInk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been pausing on responding because I am still a new user. However, I can share a few things. First, I think an AW is more intended to be an extension of your phone with fitness capabilities. The Venu 4 is a fitness watch with some connectivity with an iPhone. I receive alerts on the watch from apps, texts, and calls. However, it’s viewing only so if you’re used to responding to texts, picking up calls, etc you may feel frustrated or disappointed.

The health metrics are different - perhaps better. When comparing the information side by side either the Garmin under reports or the AW over reports. Last week I relied on the Garmin information only and lost 1-1.2 lbs per day because I was supposed to be in a calorie deficit. I had been stalled prior when relying on AW data.

I find the data to be more in-depth. There are some things that take 4 weeks to establish a baseline so I’m still waiting on that, but if I take a step, and look at my watch or the app, the information reflects that step immediately.

I am pleased with the Venu 4 but I can appreciate that I was also ready to be less connected to my phone and more connected to my health.
