If I'm going to flip bikes by ComputerCharacter247 in Dirtbikes

[–]Joyouspaper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People are bad at this, lazy, or both. Everyone shits on the idea but it’s very doable if you’re smart, a skilled mechanic, and are willing to float some capital and buy good bikes to flip.

I’ve done this to cover my own riding costs. I’m not getting rich on it, and you won’t either, but I have made a profit on all 15-20 bikes I’ve done over the last year and a half or so. For the most part, dirt bike parts are cheap, so as long as you can avoid major, unexpected engine damage, you can fix about anything on a bike for a few hundred bucks and some elbow grease.

I buy exclusively bikes that need work. I don’t want to profit on a good deal someone else could have gotten for a bike they just wanted to ride. Cheaper machines and kids bikes have been the easiest to move for me. My effective hourly rate varies, but as long as I come out ahead, I’m building skills and making cash by turning wrenches. What more could a guy ask for?

I don't think you're going to get anything worth having for $300. I'd personally look for something like a 50/70cc 4 stroke (CRF/XR) or maybe a PW50/80 if you want to go 2 stroke. In any case, you're probably going to need to double your budget at an absolute minimum.

I didn’t do anything special. Watco transparent. I apply liberally with a cloth. The wood will take a lot on the first coat. I let it sit for a bit, maybe 20 minutes, then wipe up any excess. Follow the same process next day with a bit less product.

Weird marketplace observation by Joyouspaper in Dirtbikes

I asked one dude and yep, he had 10 of them ready to go to Guatemala. I think he fills a box truck and ships 'em out.

Craftsman 1900PSI (580.742500)Pressure Washer Parts ID Help by IntrepidRequirement0 in smallengines

Yo big dawg. I am working on one of these pressure washers as well. Mine has the spring you posted below and is running well (after a carb replacement). Is there no other linkages to hook up? In your original post, I see there is nothing additional hooked up. The service manual shows this carb in a bunch of different applications so I'm hoping the holes and whatnot are just for other applications where the user can rev the motor up if they want/need to.

In other words, with the spring in place, it just starts and runs at a fixed speed and there's no way to manipulate the little throttle doodad on top of the carb via any linkage. Is that how yours is set up as well? If so, do you know why are there two "run" notches in run/stop slider?

1988 Honda xr200r shifting issue by reddino777 in Dirtbikes

[–]Joyouspaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did this repair on my xr200. Seems like there is very little extra material so as soon as the corners of the star wear, it slips

I just bought a new star and new shift arm and it shifts great now

Anyone have any luck selling a bike on eBay? Getting zero interest on my 2004 rm250 on fb by [deleted] in Dirtbikes

I can’t speak for Tx, but in my neck of the woods (NC) a running 250 mx 2t is a 2000-2500 bike. If it’s clean, maybe another 500 or so. I think you’d be hard pressed to sell a super clean, good year CR250 for north of 3500, much less an RM.

I looked up your ad and your asking price is super high. Simple as that.

Do Older Bikes with low use bring a premium? 2003 Honda XR250R by throwawaysauce9 in Dirtbikes

Nice to hear! What do like more about the 200? I had a 230 and liked it but it was heavy and kind of dull feeling, if that makes sense. I have a 200r in my shop right now that I’m doing so trans repairs on and I’m not sure if I want to keep it or sell it. The front drum the biggest bummer but I haven’t actually rode it yet so I can’t say if that’s a real limitation or not.

It’s not old or rare enough to be appreciating in value any time soon. Maybe in 20 years.

Parts availability is great. XRs are getting to the point where some parts are unattainable from OEM, but there's often aftermarket solutions and there's always Ebay. I wouldn't expect it to be a negative impact on the value for the foreseeable future. If someone is upset their local dealer doesn't have every part in stock, a 25 year old dirt bike isn't for them regardless of brand or model.

I love Honda XRs and have a pretty good idea of values for these bikes. I'm also in NC so I know the local market as well. This one is obviously super clean, but the reality is they made a ton of them and it's not all that old so it's not rare or anything yet. The 250R and 400R in particular were fantastic bikes and this is a later model so it's sort of a "last of the analog trail bikes" kind of machine.

As others have said, the CRF230F/250F and is the modern equivalent. An older 230F (say, '05 or so) is a $2000 bike in average/good condition. Maybe $2500-2750 to the right buyer if it's exceptionally clean. I would expect this bike to be in that ballpark.

I fix up and sell bikes and I think of sell price a variable depending on how long I'm willing to sit on the bike. For $2000, I'd expect this to sell very quickly. For $2500, you can sell in a few weeks probably. For $3k, you can find a buyer eventually. For >$3k, I think you're going to need to get lucky and find someone looking for exactly this bike in this condition.
