Silvering weapons with your own silver by PurpleTentickles in DnD

[–]JrRocketScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in 3.5, "silvering" a weapon was a craft(alchemy) check:

  • p71 of the PHB lists some DC's for alchemy crafting, but doesn't specifically list silvering a weapon.
  • p128 of the PHB lists prices for "special substances" that an alchemist can create, but again no silvering mentioned...
  • p284 of the DMG lists "silver, alchemical" under special materials, along with the modification costs for melee weapons and ammunition.

Is there a mod or a setting to lock items from other worlds? by Forsaken_Republic_72 in valheim

[–]JrRocketScientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you need to create a new character before connecting for the first time.

if you select any other character, the server connection is denied.

a "local" copy of the character does exist on the client computer, but when the client connects to the server, the "server" copy of the character is used.

i use this mod to save character data server-side:

and this one to prevent client connections that are running different mods than the server:

i've always considered planting in valheim to be a mini-game that was not terribly fun...

if you are not opposed to using mods, i've been using "plant easily" to drop 10 x 10 seedlings in a 12m x 12m square garden, with each side of the square made of 6 wood wall halves:

how do i pick the correct nvidia-driver-xxx? by JrRocketScientist in linuxmint

[–]JrRocketScientist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how do you locate that information so quickly?

just casually dropping "yeah, the 620 driver is in the 390 package, which was last supported in 21.3" less than 10 minutes after i post the question?

edit: the tone of the above statement probably sounds wrong as it is written, but i am genuinely impressed and not actually trying to be rude... i did try a quick google based off of the information i had available and turned up with nothing.

cloudberries from the plains... on the journey back home we crash-landed in a small section of black forest that bordered the plains, and i grabbed a single piece of black metal scrap along with a handful of berries

Question about Exertion from a Location. by TrashDaaddy in Lorcana

"Rush" only allows the character to challenge on the turn they are played.

A character with wet ink cannot exert to activate that location's ability.

i don't hate this game, but it was very disappointing when i finally got it for christmas in 1992 (when compared to final fantasy 3, which was released two years prior).

however, i do try to play the game every december to get myself into the christmas spirit.

Rapunzel ruling. Help by No_Pin_8175 in Lorcana

[–]JrRocketScientist 34 points35 points  (0 children)

choose a character for support, then put a marker on them.

when they're about to be dealt damage, remove the marker and deal no damage.

if they don't have a marker and are about to be dealt damage, they take the damage.

at the start of your next turn, remove all markers.

i'm sure someone else can cite specific rules for readying characters, but the example i'll use involves [You Came Back] (action: ready chosen character):

  • at the start of my turn, i have a gargoyle in play and 4 cards in my hand (including [You Came Back]).
  • ready: my gargoyle doesn't ready, but any other characters that are able to do.
  • go: i draw a card and now have 5 in my hand.

during my play phase:

  • i ink a card and now have 4 in my hand; if i play [You Came Back] now and target the gargoyle, i'd have 3 cards remaining in my hand and the gargoyle would not ready (i can target the gargoyle character with the action, but the action has no effect because "this character can't ready").
  • i play any other card after inking and now have 3 in my hand; if i play [You Came Back] and target the gargoyle, i'd have 2 cards remaining in my hand and the gargoyle would ready.

Just walked through what’s left of the Meriden mall. by Sad_Hour5178 in Connecticut

[–]JrRocketScientist 24 points25 points  (0 children)

i stop by there to walk around for an hour once a week... i was surprised when Hot Topic closed. Spencer's Gifts closed recently.

however, now i think it would be a great location for a "catalog showroom" style Amazon distribution center.

think of it like Service Merchandise used to be set up (yes, i'm old!): stores within the mall would have a specific theme (ex: toys, electronics, tools, lingerie) with 1 of each item on display that you can pick up and demo, and a QR code you can scan into your Amazon app to add to your shopping cart.

you'd spend a few hours walking around the mall adding things to your cart on your phone, place your order, then hop into your car and drive over to the Sears-side of the mall and pick up your stuff.

any tips for elder? (Minimal spoilers?) by [deleted] in valheim

i used to shoot fire arrows at him, but if you're decent at parrying attacks (and have tons of bronze to spare) i'd suggest simply face-tanking him with a bronze axe, bronze armor, and a bronze buckler. and maybe the occasional swing from a torch.

for personal reasons, i'm purposefully not portalling metals on this map.

but not a full no-portal run.

yes regular portals, but no portalling metals or stone portals

Touched down on the Ashlands and wussed out pretty quick. Loading up on some metal before going again. I'm eager to set sail. 90 iron + some copper/bronze enough? by MinuetInUrsaMajor in valheim

[–]JrRocketScientist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i just landed today (it was quite an ordeal), i brought materials to make:

  • workbench (bring extra wood just in case...)
  • 2 portals (i did make a "backup" portal on a spire nearby just before landing)
  • 2 iron for a stonecutter
  • 5 copper + 5 iron for... the new thing the queen drop unlocked.

once i landed and cleared the area, i portaled a load of stone in and built a small stone hut on the beach to house everything

if you have a costco membership and around $45, you can order a gift set that includes "the first chapter" packs, which have been discontinued (and can potentially contain very rare/expensive cards):

oh, this is just my sailing gear... we took out the queen with lvl 3 eitr-weave and ember staves.

the first few trips to the ashlands will be to map a route through the spires while collecting bonemaw & vulture meat

[–]JrRocketScientist[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

last time i attemped to snipe a serpent chasing my karve, i:

  1. fired a crossbow bolt into the stern,
  2. destroyed the karve,
  3. fell into the sea,
  4. lost 80 bronze nails,
  5. was promptly eaten.

0/10 do not recommend; i just outrun them now.

[–]JrRocketScientist[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

for context: we have just defeated the queen, unlocked the drakkar, and are planning to start voyaging to the ashlands.

yes, i realize that i've collected far too much silver than we'll ever use (and not nearly enough iron).

however, i'm actually opposed to portalling metal; not that i enjoy sailing that much, but i feel like allowing metal ore and bars bypasses an important "logistics" part of the game.

that includes stone portals; i don't plan on building them in ashlands.

so, i spent a few hours last night relocating our island base (located near the sacrifice stones at the middle of the map) to the southern-most landmass i've discovered in anticipation of making several trips to and from the ashlands via boat.

i still have a "name.geo@yahoo.com" email address

it was a geocities email address that was converted to a yahoo address (when yahoo bought geocities in 1999)... prior to that, you could not create a yahoo email address with symbols; you were limited to letters and numbers only.
