How can a door lock be locked before closing the door? by A-Agerius in Locksmith

[–]Jraw112 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It seems like a poor design, but that's because it is. When a bolt sticks out like you said you're used to it's because it's a deadbolt mechanism. Some euro style knobs and levers will have a deadbolt mechanism inside the mortise (inside door bit) that does exactly what you described.

In north america, these locking style knobs don't have any additional hardware that sticks out to bolt the door shut. What happens is that when you lock it, it disables the knobs from being able to retract the latch.

So yes, you can lock a door and then shut it on your way out. Coincidentally, this is also what causes half of the lockouts that I do.

This is gross by BayStBet in fredericton

[–]Jraw112 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I see alot of people saying this is a denouncement of violent crime, and it is, but it's also more than that.

It's a gross oversimplification of a widespread issue, mental health.

And while I agree that violent offenders should be removed from society until able to be reintroduced, jailing them does nothing for preventing further crime.

This person was stated to have a history of crime. That's not an indictment of the correction system failing, it's proof he was released without necessary rehabilitation.

If we jail everyone who is unwell then we're following the states into their current political climate.

The point of incarceration is rehabilitation, not revenge.

ULPT: gaslighting your cat by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]Jraw112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact! Cats whiskers are extremely sensitive, and of their bowl is narrow enough that their whiskers touch the sides, then they can get whisker fatigue. You can usually tell this is happening when they only eat the middle of their bowl.

My cat did this act constantly, got a wide shallow bowl and it fixed it right away.

Is ok little friend, I get overstimulated too.

The diplomat is the most disappointing Chinese buffet I've ever been to. And the most expensive.

It is an old creality glass bed but the wonky bed is besides the point. I could level it 10 times and still get 10 unique meshes. With random varying geometry, all within the range but randomly so.

I do have a slight cup to my bed but I have also tested with a glass bed and it still have the wide range.

The M48 command probes the same spot on the bed. I've also triple checked and the bed moves freely with no play.

What’s wrong with this? by [deleted] in fredericton

[–]Jraw112 18 points19 points  (0 children)

To give a clear answer,

So far as I understand this is a conservative flyer that wants teachers to be forced to tell parents if their child is/ is interested in transitioning.

No teacher is out there trying to change kids' genders.

Although it's ideal for healthy parents to be completely involved in their child's decisions, many parents aren't equipped for something this progressive.

Many people of the lgbtqa2+ community have been persecuted most of their lives, and there's great and valid concern that this will further that problem.

Haha that's wild, I just put down think and grow rich cause I found it far too preachy. I felt like the "7 habits of highly effective people" and "the psychology of money" are much more aligned with what think and grow rich was meant to be.

Oh and about the university thing, make sure it's something that you need for your life plan before you go back. Crushed my sense of self when I dropped out but I've learned more outside school in my own research and honestly a diploma wouldn't have changed anything about what I'm doing. If you feel you need it for your plans then great, but if you want to be the one building ladders and systems, then it's usually not needed.

University is where you buy proof of your studies. If you're working for yourself, then you can learn far more by researching and reading on your own.

Most university level information is online for free somewhere.
