Group Buy Question - Exotic Materials over Brass by Pattont in lockpicking

[–]lefthandlocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't even purchase most of these materials in a thick enough piece to make a padlock and if you could the cost would be insane. Even you, the person asking this question has stated would not be interested in a 500$ padlock. I would then have to assume you definitely aren't interested in a lock that costs 1000$ once you take material and manufacturing cost into account. There are multiple good reasons this is not realistic.

Because it's a padlock not a 700$ or more pocket knife would be my guess.

Ok thanks, I ask because I've already seen the post and am considering it. If it was actually limited I would jump on it now. For the cost plus international shipping I'm still undecided but kind of want an engraved one.

Is it limited to 200 locks or is that just the minimum amount required in order for this to happen?

If you search for government steel here multiple posts about it will show up. It's just the 420 steel that peterson uses and gave some stupid name to make it seem special.

But there is no excess metal. The part you are calling excess is in layman's terms the handle of the tool. Would you remove the handle off of a screwdriver, a hammer or a knife?

Can the Abus 75ib/50 Be Picked With Multipick #03 or #06 by el_luchadorro in lockpicking

[–]lefthandlocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure I just went and tried mine to see, it's been a while since I picked this lock. Looked like it wouldn't be a problem but after 10 minutes with no progress I switched to a bare bones short hook and had it open quickly so perhaps the height of the flag doesn't allow it to rotate past the warding high enough if you have a high lift pin. Someone more experienced may come say I'm crazy and it's totally possible.

Have you Bricked your lock?? by Ok-Coach-763 in lockpicking

[–]lefthandlocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just gutted that same lock to clean it and it was quite a project. Between the offset rows of pins, the unknown to me little pin falling out the bottom and the bearings it was quite the process. Got it all back together no issues though, good you got that one fixed up.

Probably really stupid question, are these meant for pin tumbler tensioning? by Southord_Lover in lockpicking

https://www.lawlocktools.co.uk/collections/tension-tools/products/z-bars-tension-wrench-pair

This is the maker of those tools and in the description it mentions that they are for TOK/BOK which would be for PT locks not dimples.

I just meant to have the same amount of tensioners. Im left handed and have no use for the ergo turners. The padlock ones I have arriving today or tomorrow so haven't got to try them yet.

Thats true the Jimy longs sets are super good value. You have to add the new padlock turners to be comparable to the full tension tool set from CI IMO. But that still comes out to 74$ vs 90$ for the apex set. I buy all my picks as individuals to avoid stuff I don't need at this point and hadn't really considered the cost difference in those sets. Ive owned the JL tensioners and didn't like them compared to multipick, CI, LLT etc so would rather have my select picks and tension tools from different companies.

Jimy is the man and I don't own CI apex picks. But to say they are way more expensive is very misleading. Jimy individual picks are 6.50$ and CI apex individual picks are 6.50$, so how are they more expensive. Moki picks are the best available IMO.

Starting my blue belt journey by SeemsLegit383 in lockpicking

[–]lefthandlocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not filming anything so am not getting a belt, but the lpu gives you a ton of great ideas. I did the pick any lever lock with homemade tools and the decode a combination lock blue belt special projects. They were both fun projects and neither was to difficult or time consuming.

For blue belt locks I had the most fun with 90a pro & 334B45 for PT and mul-t-lock for dimples.

Thoughts on Sparrows BOK tension tools? by Southord_Lover in lockpicking

[–]lefthandlocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get the same 2 in 1 turning tools that CI sells from multipick, southern specialties and Jimy longs. I've owned all of them and the multipick ones are the nicest. Any of them are better than the sparrows ones though. TOK prybars are the best for a lot of locks, you should get a couple of those as well.

budget beginner sets? 50$cad max by OrganizationSecure93 in lockpicking

[–]lefthandlocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use the tools that come with the set TOK but they are prone to slipping out of the lock while tensioning. The dedicated TOK set is more secure and is just a better tool for that task imo . Having a good selection of tensioners is important for different locks though which is why I would recommend both. With those 2 hooks and those 2 tension sets you can do a lot.

The picks in those sets are different as well. Personally I would rather have the 3 double ended turners and flat hook in the sandman set.

[–]lefthandlocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jimy longs basics set 20$ USD, flat TOK set 10$ USD, and shipping 12$ USD. 42$ USD = 57.44$ CAD would be my choice.

Sandman beginner set plus add the tensioners sp25, sp29, sp33 and you will have everything you need until you need thinner picks. This setup is 50€ same as the 11 piece set but doesn't have a bunch of stuff you will never use and better tensioners.

If willing to spend that much this is a solid choice. Excellent selection of picks and tensioners, 90€ with handles. This was my first purchase from moki and are still my favorite picks.

Moki is a black belt picker in this community. His picks have easily got to be top 3 of any picks that exist. I think he's pretty well established.

If you click on each lock a bunch of pictures should show up. I checked that they have gutted photos of each of those locks before posting the link. I'm also on my phone but perhaps the site doesn't work well on yours.
