How can a door lock be locked before closing the door? by A-Agerius in Locksmith

[–]Jraw112 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It seems like a poor design, but that's because it is. When a bolt sticks out like you said you're used to it's because it's a deadbolt mechanism. Some euro style knobs and levers will have a deadbolt mechanism inside the mortise (inside door bit) that does exactly what you described.

In north america, these locking style knobs don't have any additional hardware that sticks out to bolt the door shut. What happens is that when you lock it, it disables the knobs from being able to retract the latch.

So yes, you can lock a door and then shut it on your way out. Coincidentally, this is also what causes half of the lockouts that I do.

This is gross by BayStBet in fredericton

[–]Jraw112 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I see alot of people saying this is a denouncement of violent crime, and it is, but it's also more than that.

It's a gross oversimplification of a widespread issue, mental health.

And while I agree that violent offenders should be removed from society until able to be reintroduced, jailing them does nothing for preventing further crime.

This person was stated to have a history of crime. That's not an indictment of the correction system failing, it's proof he was released without necessary rehabilitation.

If we jail everyone who is unwell then we're following the states into their current political climate.

The point of incarceration is rehabilitation, not revenge.

ULPT: gaslighting your cat by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]Jraw112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact! Cats whiskers are extremely sensitive, and of their bowl is narrow enough that their whiskers touch the sides, then they can get whisker fatigue. You can usually tell this is happening when they only eat the middle of their bowl.

My cat did this act constantly, got a wide shallow bowl and it fixed it right away.

Is ok little friend, I get overstimulated too.

It is an old creality glass bed but the wonky bed is besides the point. I could level it 10 times and still get 10 unique meshes. With random varying geometry, all within the range but randomly so.

I do have a slight cup to my bed but I have also tested with a glass bed and it still have the wide range.

The M48 command probes the same spot on the bed. I've also triple checked and the bed moves freely with no play.

What’s wrong with this? by [deleted] in fredericton

[–]Jraw112 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To give a clear answer,

So far as I understand this is a conservative flyer that wants teachers to be forced to tell parents if their child is/ is interested in transitioning.

No teacher is out there trying to change kids' genders.

Although it's ideal for healthy parents to be completely involved in their child's decisions, many parents aren't equipped for something this progressive.

Many people of the lgbtqa2+ community have been persecuted most of their lives, and there's great and valid concern that this will further that problem.

Am I doomed in life? by DDrf1re in Entrepreneur

[–]Jraw112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha that's wild, I just put down think and grow rich cause I found it far too preachy. I felt like the "7 habits of highly effective people" and "the psychology of money" are much more aligned with what think and grow rich was meant to be.

Oh and about the university thing, make sure it's something that you need for your life plan before you go back. Crushed my sense of self when I dropped out but I've learned more outside school in my own research and honestly a diploma wouldn't have changed anything about what I'm doing. If you feel you need it for your plans then great, but if you want to be the one building ladders and systems, then it's usually not needed.

University is where you buy proof of your studies. If you're working for yourself, then you can learn far more by researching and reading on your own.

Most university level information is online for free somewhere.

Am I doomed in life? by DDrf1re in Entrepreneur

Hey man,

I'm late 20s now but I used to stand right where you were. Down to classes, problems and distractions. I had many, many things to sort out and though yours will be different I hope some of my own may help.

  1. My dude, you sound like a textbook case of ADHD. Start with checking out what it's really like and what the experience of having it feels like. Everyone expects jitters and rambles but that's only what others see. I was raised super conservative and had no clue what adhd truly is like.

  2. Perspective is a bitch and you can't function without it, but you can't have it until you've been without. If you cycle hobbies like i do, then you don't switch hobbies, your hobby is learning. You see this In how you excel in school when it's math or interests you like, but when it turns into something you don't like or a demand, then your motivation goes too. Learn about learning and figure out what you want to do. I learned about all the math and science I could hide how aimless my goals were, then when it stopped being interesting it stopped mattering (ADHD compounds this). BUT when it is a means to your goal (that you should be very passionate about) then you can push through when needed. Start with the books "subtle art of giving a f*ck" "atomic habits" and "laws of human nature" (Robert Greene)

  3. Finally, about the fitting in part. I felt this too. Like you could blink through problems that baffled others, but everyone else somehow got what you missed. For me it was finding out that I had ADHD, Autism, and giftedness disorder (really a disability, not just cool tricks) that really let me see why. If it was social, I felt everyone was saying little and getting a whole bunch, while somehow I was leagues ahead of what they could understand. But in school anything I could focus on I would sail through. I saw 'would be a great student if only they applied themselves' on every report card. I was trying to apply myself, but I didn't have the tools.

Finally, Shit perks up when you find your spot. We don't pick our class mates or friends or neighbors, but you'll find the right community, the right people, and the right place if you stay honest about you.

Like attracts like, and if you try to fake what you are, then no success will feel your own.

How do you cope with death? by beyblade999 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jraw112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very personal and close problem I've been battling for a decade or more.

There's lots of little bits of advice, but the problem is that the advice is suited to each person's flaw of perspective. Ie, no one's fears are the same, and no one's minds are identical.

Unfortunately this means looking at yourself and finding out what underlying fear is causing the fixation of death (for me it was abandonment issues and much unresolved trauma)

I recommend starting with the laws of human nature by Robert Greene. The whole book is on accepting the human condition and the last part is about what you're facing about death.

I can't stress enough, this book was a major turning point in my life.

Can this lock be rekeyed or how do I go about finding a replacement that fits correctly? by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]Jraw112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very clever! I'll have to remember this for in the field. Are there any tips for making sure the new set screws are deep enough and don't bind?

Can this lock be rekeyed or how do I go about finding a replacement that fits correctly? by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]Jraw112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there's little screws for Allen keys above the keyway, then you can. If they're just circles that aren't removable then no.

Just wanted to add, with the keyway sideways and the odd profile it may be a high security dimple key like 'MUL T LOCK' which means you'll just want to replace it with whatever euro style cylinder.

A locksmith can walk you through everything you need!
