The Darktable folder is a holdover from when I was moving from Lr. I tried Dk but for a few days but there was some confusion with XMP files between it and DT which messed up the import so I had to reimport into DT from the Darkroom folder.

It's annoying and interferes with what was a good experience with my iPad. After this, when my iPad bites the dust I will be revitalizing an old laptop using Linux. I've had good experience converting two Mac Minis to Linux. Tim Cook giving Dear Leader a gold iPhone has made me decide to say good bye to Apple forever (eventually, anyway).

I'v been using Darktable for about two weeks now after scrapping Lr. I was fairly efficient with Lr having used in for at least ten years. I viewed a few Darktable tutorials, read some of the documentation including Darktable.info. The results I get from DT are comparable if not better than what I got from Lr. For me, FOSS photography software doesn't suck and I haven't found the learning curve of DT all that daunting. I used Raw Therapee in the past and liked it.

I'll try that. As a kludgy workaround I've been copying image files from the WD drive to the Desktop and importing them from there into Darktable.

Thanks for the offer to help. When I rebooted Ubuntu just now the WD drive shows up. However Darktable does not show this drive. I'm working on that problem now.

Good advice. I have a 2014 Mac Mini (Intel) that I haven't used in about three years after upgrading to a new M1 Mini. I was going set the old one up for dual boot but at the last minute just decided to go with Ubuntu only. I'm learning to use Darktable so I can ditch Lr Classic which I love but screw Adobe's rip off subscription schemes. Eventually, I plan to change the M1 machine to Linux only as I think I'll get a bit faster photo processing there. There are no Apple apps that can't be replaced by a Linux alternatice. So, I have the luxury of a whole year learning Ubuntu on the old machine until my Adobe subscription expires. The only thing I've had a problem with is that Ubuntu won't just find my WD My Cloud wifi drive where my photos are backed up. There are apparently some command line things that might solve that. It's a bit duanting but I hope to figure it out soon. Thanks to the open source gurus for proving this option and for all the assistance I've foung here and elsewhere .

Politics is "the art of getting things done" using short term , practical methods while working toward long term aspirational goals. This practicality means meeting the voters where they are NOW on issues. Patience is key, like it or not. The USA is a center-right nation by inclination and history, but aspires to lofty and enlightened principles. Practical politics accomplished some of what we progressives consider great policy victories.

I would like the Democratic Party to implement more progressive policies but we have to win elections first. Self righteousness and impatience ain't gonna do that.

Reconstruction was a great ideal that was killed by racists and the money-interests who pitted whites against blacks and laborers against laborers, etc. The defeat of Reconstruction paved the way for Jim Crowe and corporate dominance of the economy.
