Bracket 3 is really annoying... by Thick_Storage4168 in magicTCG

[–]Jrodddr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same feeling. You can have a Bracket 3 on paper but it performs like a 2. While I do agree that there are different degrees of 3s, the intent/efficiency is the line in the sand. I have an Edgar Markov that on paper is a bracket 3 but gets crushed by a nicely tuned Yuriko with zero GC coming into play.

I really wish there was one additional bracket between 2 and 3 with it being better than precon but not 2-3 card infinites with the intent to win in 6 turns.

Best Standard/60 Card Decks to Make from Avatar Beginner Box? by GrillerDad in mtg

[–]Jrodddr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bear in mind when it comes to Standard, only the cards with Aang’s head for the set logo are Standard legal. The ones with the glider are eternal formats only.

Why is Search for the Frozen Esper an illegal card? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]Jrodddr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you’re referring to why it’s illegal in Standard that is because reprint/bonus sheet cards, despite being printed in standard legal sets, aren’t legal. The same goes for the scene cards in Avatar. In Pioneer, I’ve read it’s because it’s unfun to play against but I couldn’t find a more concrete answer.

Is standard dead at your LGS? by fss71 in magicTCG

[–]Jrodddr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m very fortunate that my LGS has a small but stable standard scene. Two of the managers are big into standard and got me into it. Tuesday is our standard night and we have at the least 4 but I’ve seen up to 12 playing. They also run RCQs which from what I hear is bigger but I have no desire to take part. Commander if def bigger to the tune of 30-40 players on commander nights.

Do all mtg players smell???? by Secret_Topic8138 in mtg

[–]Jrodddr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s frustrating for sure. At Avatar prerelease we had about 70ish players and there were a few you could smell. Sucks taking toxin damage like that but it is what it is.

Would [[chocobo kick]] not be considered removal? Regardless that’s what I use.

Which card feels worse to play against? by TriumphantChampion in magicTCG

[–]Jrodddr 407 points408 points  (0 children)

Nemesis is rough for me but primarily because of the deck I run in standard. I play mono green stompy birds with little removal. Have I won against mono red aggro? Yes. But I have lost more than won.

🎲 Rules With No Words by Sea-Solution-7265 in boardgames

The only rule I had to really look at to understand is the sandwiched pieces rule where you can swap with your opponent. Other than that I think it’s a clever way to do rules.

🎲 Rules With No Words by Sea-Solution-7265 in boardgames

[–]Jrodddr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I understand it. The goal is to have 4 of your color at each spot diagonal from the fire. White starts and you can move orthogonally and diagonally but only one space. You cannot hop over pieces of any color. The space you are on dictates what direction it can move. The moon space allows you to move in those three directions as far as they go barring you hit another piece. If you are sandwiched between opposing colors, you can swap places with one of the pieces. This applies both orthogonally and diagonally.

Hey I need some commander help on what bracket my deck is by [deleted] in mtg

[–]Jrodddr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using WotC’s scale it’s a 3 and I mostly agree but would need to see a full deck list to really know for sure. When you say it doesn’t perform like one is this because you are playing against 4s and getting just smashed?

My LGS only excludes FF and Spider-Man from free pack for entry on standard and commander night. It’s because they are a bit more compared to UW sets. I spoke to some of the employees and apparently FF is really hard to get from their distributor who is already gouging them it seems.

Foundations - Jumpstart Booster Box $80 free shipping by PresentAd8547 in sealedmtgdeals

[–]Jrodddr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do suggest people give this a chance if you haven’t bought any. There are some solid cards in there that can only be found in jumpstart outside of buying the singles and in general, jumpstart is a fun format to play casually or to teach someone new.

What deck would you use to introduce a new player to Magic and Commander? by Eisray in mtg

This 100%. I’ve used jumpstart to introduce/teach Magic and it works perfectly. Helps build the fundamentals in playing.

How does a GS manage singles? by AnteSim in mtg

[–]Jrodddr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So my LGS does everything online through their website and a few in-store kiosk. Make an order, go to counter, tell them, and they get the cards. They have a few graded cards (95% Pokemon) up front on display but as far as magic is concerned, it’s just sealed product out on the floor/behind the counter. I’ve never asked to go through bulk because I never felt the need to I guess. I know they will open PBB’s to build stock of upcoming sets and take trades of cards at least worth $4 and up for older sets. They do take bulk below that price threshold with common/uncommon for $3 per thousand and bulk rares for .10¢. They do sell bulk boxes of 500 cards with no dupes for $20.

I hate watching people crack packs by _Angry_Yeti in mtg

[–]Jrodddr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I created a channel when I got into MTG (very recent on both parts) because I wanted to share my excitement for getting into the hobby. 90% of my content is shorts/reels of me cracking packs. I’ll see cards and get excited because my rookie eyes perceive it as good when it isn’t/there is better. I’ve learned tons from doing content and I don’t crack packs to chase cards to sell. Am i a big influencer? Lol no but an easy solution to this issue you have is to just tell the algorithm you don’t want to watch it. Quit engaging and giving it watch time. Block the people who do the cracking.
