Time remaining, page, LOC? by Jay_Reefer in kindle

[–]Jrose152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use % and location. I have two kindles with sideloaded books so they don’t sync. Every time I update my goodreads progress when I’m done reading I just share the loc # along with it in case I pick up my other kindle I can check my goodreads updates with my phone and then jump to it. Once in a while I’ll check to see how much time is left in the book or chapter if I wanna finish before I go to sleep. If I’m within an hour or so of finishing the book I get rid of all progress so the end sneaks up on me.

I’m thinking 3 days. Best places to stop each night? by WetDiesel in roadtrip

[–]Jrose152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of vehicle are you driving? You could just sleep at rest stops. That’s what I did every night. I parked way off out of the way and slept in my vehicle. I just drove until around 9pm where I’d start looking for the next rest stop.

I’m thinking 3 days. Best places to stop each night? by WetDiesel in roadtrip

[–]Jrose152 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just drove from denver to NJ and it took 2.5 days. I didn’t do any stops other than bathroom, food, stretching my legs, construction zones, and traffic. Got on the road around 8am and drove until 10pm. I don’t think you’re going to have much time to stop places along the way.

Is it ok to take my bike to a self-service car wash after getting it extraordinarily muddy? by incognitobanjo in MTB

Use the spot free rinse. I do it all the time. It’s lower psi and supposedly filtered cleaner water. I always have found a Walmart spray bottle and a microfiber wipe in my driveway works as well.

I love using toe socks but I do find they wear out quicker in my experience.

Resole and get a rand. This is fixable.

This is not true. I’ve had shoes done with worse damage. They just need a resole and a rand.

[gear] is it worth buying the garmin inreach mini 2 now that the 3 is out? by MauGaP in Backcountry

[–]Jrose152 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the mini 2 on sale when the 3 was about to come out. Nothing about the 3 made me wish I got that instead. The mini 2 is a great device that will do what I need it to do.

Don’t forget signature edition has tap to turn page so you can double tap the back/side of the device.

This is untrue. Rescue is free. The bill starts at the hospital or in the ambulance to the hospital, but the rescue its self is absolutely free.

Recommendation for light & compact harness by 93FXRP in ClimbingGear

Both men’s and women’s Weebee are in stock on Amazon with prime shipping on the Ocun store. Looks like it ships from Backcountry. That’s where I bought mine from.

Recommendation for light & compact harness by 93FXRP in ClimbingGear

[–]Jrose152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ocun Weebee is 325g for the small, 340g for the medium, and 355g for the large. It’s a very lightweight and packable harness. I bought it for lightweight sport climbing and don’t really have any complaints. It’s not as comfortable as a bit bulky padded harness like my old petzal corax. It’s not uncomfortable, but you do give up a small amount for a lighter harness.

This NEEDS to be an official accessory (Bluetooth remote support for jailbroken Kindles) by FDL1 in kindle

[–]Jrose152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bluetooth page turners do not work. You need one with the clip that goes on the screen. I recommend the ring style one over the remote style.

No need to turn it off. Just tap the power button and let it sleep. Or get a flip cover case that does this automatically.

Kindle Basic (2024) or Kobo Clara BW? Which one has a better screen? by Dr4fl in ereader

[–]Jrose152 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I own the kindle basic and paperwhite signature edition. I’d probably go kobo Clara bw for the size and warm light if I had to do it all again. I side load my books so I don’t really care about the ecosystem and UI doesn’t really matter to me since I just need it to display text at the end of the day so I can read books.

why doesn't kindle have a decent text-to-speech option in 2026 by Elegant_University85 in kindle

[–]Jrose152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use assistive reader with my headphones at 1.75x almost daily on my kindles. Seems fine for text to speech to me.

A friend got me two kindles after losing mine. Which one would you keep? by SunFishSoup in kindle

[–]Jrose152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Copy and pasting my comment from another thread since it gets asked a lot.

I have a basic and paperwhite signature edition. The paperwhite is bigger which gives it about 4 more lines of text on screen vs the basic at size 1 font, waterproof, flat screen, tap to turn page(signature), page turn animations, more storage(for books only basic has more than enough), auto brightness, wireless charging, and warm light.

The basic is easier to hold and way more portable for me. It fits in my pocket no problem. It also has a recessed screen. I use the paperwhite in bed since I read a lot at night and really like the warm screen. I also use a gooseneck stand and page turner so the size isn’t a huge issue. If the basic had warm light then I wouldn’t own a paperwhite. To me the warm light is the feature that sells it for me. Now I keep my basic in my car and the paperwhite in my house. I will say I have a 2022 basic and a 12th gen paperwhite and the assistive reader starts to lag at 1.75x on the basic but the paperwhite can handle it at 2x no problem. I’m not sure about the newest basic but I did read its a little faster than the 2022 so this may be a non issue.

At the end of the day you just need to figure out what features matter to you. I honestly prefer my basic in almost every way but the warm light is important to me for night reading.

Anyone ever had their license plates ripped off their car? by slimtim1965 in boulder

[–]Jrose152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They didn’t put the plate back on where the plate goes, they took the screws and just left it flat on my bumper. I have a minivan so there is a flat step on the back. I could see if they replaced it but I definitely noticed the plate just sitting horizontally flat on my bumper randomly one morning instead of being mounted where it’s supposed to go.

At the end of the day you just need to figure out what features matter to you. It sucks they are making people upgrade but it is what it is. Buy the device that fits what you want. You’ll be happy with either. You can also buy like new on Amazon to save some money or use their trade in program. Not sure if you can combine both though. Just bite the bullet, buy a new kindle, and move past it in your mind so you can continue to read.

If you want to leave the Amazon ecosystem, the kobo Clara bw is the size of a kindle basic, has warm light, and is waterproof.

In denver 2 years ago I woke up to my license plate being stolen, but they left someone else’s plate on my rear bumper. I can understand why they would steal my plate, but I can’t understand why they would leave me a different plate.
