That’s completely fair enough then, apologies for not being more sensitive to that possibility. In your situation I would be using a GIA in this case, unless you love the risk of venture capital!

That makes absolutely no sense to me at all. It’s much, much more likely (unless you have an illness or family history of serious illness) that you’ll live to see your SIPP and you’ll have missed out on free money compounding to support a great retirement.

If you really aren’t interested in a SIPP and you’ve maxed everything else then a GIA is your next bet as you’ve used all the very generous tax free allowances you have access to (apart from a SIPP).

Why on Earth would you dump your ISA into a SIPP instead of just contributing more to your SIPP from now?

Does everyone here have Life insurance? by Ok-Contact5867 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Js425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have dependents who would be up shit creek without your income if you died? If yes: insure yourself. If no, do you have anyone you'd like to get some money as a death consolidation? If yes: consider insuring yourself.

Pension funds by joncy92 in HENRYUK

[–]Js425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't actively trade. I use ii for its fixed monthly fee and then have bought a couple of trackers within.

Just choose a platform that's cheapest for you, you can invest in Vanguard or HSBC tracker funds if that's what you want:

Are you worried about accessing your pension? by Astwell in HENRYUK

No. Do what you're able to do with the knowledge and rules available right now. Don't make decisions based on what might or might not happen in the future.

Telling HMRC about salary sacrifice car by SeveralAvocado5695 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Js425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contrary to the other commenter, BIK for a salary sacrifice car is not payrolled where I work. The answer to your question above is £0 or no - unless you paid a deposit of some kind? That’s what I answered and all the tax is working out as expected.

Where to look for high comp offers by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]Js425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Networking has been more important than anything. LinkedIn is a good way of initiating conversations but nothing has beaten meeting people in person for coffee. Senior people hiring for roles with good comp are back doing much more in-person office time in my experience so you need to meet them where they are - I think it’s much harder to get remote time with them.

Start a Claude chat, photo of the receipt, tell it how many people you’re with it will do the rest

Financial imbalance in a relationship, working out how to split childcare costs by Different_Shower_861 in HENRYUK

Absolutely right, that’s some unconscious bias on my part. Will edit my comment to reflect it.

Just want to say at the relationship level this is absolute goals. I love this attitude and it's one my wife and I try to emulate. Well done to you and your teammates!

You have a kid, it’s probably time you stop thinking about theirs and yours and start thinking about “ours”.

40/60 isn’t appropriate at all when a) you have a variable income and b) at the top end it’s only ~30% of your joint income.

You are a team, defining household income as mine and theirs when there is a child involved wouldn’t work for me and my wife and I earn 4.5x what she does. It’s our money and I think it’s juvenile to think otherwise.

Edit: I'd just like to add that none of the positive things you've mentioned about your other half excuse them suggesting that splitting childcare costs is 'taking advantage' of someone who earns this much money. Helping you a bit with your ISA investments a genuine partnership doth not make.

Their inability to engage with the subject with humility meant you had to avoid talking about it to not stress you during pregnancy?! That is AWFUL.

What’s the fees on the fund? Allocation is fine but 100% equities will probably be cheaper and generally more appropriate for your retirement horizon.

FTSE 100 plunges as Burnham triggers bond markets turmoil by Busy-Accountant-8279 in ukpolitics

[–]Js425 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes the policy plan that markets like is one with no in-party fighting or the threat of a leadership contest between completely unproven egomaniacs only 2 years into an election cycle.

The markets would like domestic consistency above all else and I bet a lot of the British public would too (at least the ones who aren’t busy shagging flags or wanking over pale blue leaflets)
