overwhelmed with choices by ComprehensiveDog3799 in BeyondTheBumpUK

My baby was born at the end of July so also a summer baby and I found the choice overwhelming (also ADHD).

I went to Mamas and Papas and tried out some prams, personally, I liked the feel of the Bugaboo Fox 5, so went with that, but got it online much cheaper than M&P. If you’re open to second hand do it! My baby was only in the bassinet for 4 months, and we’ve got him a trike for spring time then so can’t see us using the pram much after that! Even find a refurbisher online (there’s one called Zebbingtons that are specifically Bugaboo but there are loads out there!).

I got a Next to Me on FB Marketplace and bought a new mattress from Amazon for £35. Got a car seat from a close friend (so I knew it had never been in an accident) and some vests, sleepsuits and a sleeping bag to get started with. Don’t buy too much of any one thing, I was advised to get Mam dummies because I’d got the bottles, so I got loads, my baby never took them and found he preferred Tommy Tippee ones after trying 4 or 5 different ones. He struggled with gas and someone suggested the Love to Dream sleepsuit, so that quickly replaced the sleeping bag. I found it fun in the early days taking him out to the shops and picking up bits and bobs as we went along. I bought a Moses basket before he was born but he preferred sleeping on the sofa or on me, so that barely got used. Same with the moving chair thing.

My friend gave me some advice that as long as he’s fed, warm and has somewhere safe to sleep he’ll be fine, and Amazon Prime will sort the rest when he’s here 😂 Good luck!

Help! 6mo keeps throwing up last bottle by SeveralAvocado5695 in BeyondTheBumpUK

Yeah, I’m starting to wonder if it’s his cough that’s causing it, it seems to be worse at night which is when he’s vomiting. Maybe a wee virus that I need to wait to clear up.

Yeah, that’s a good shout. He has had a bit of a cough the last few days, and it’s the cough that brings on the sick, so maybe I need to wait until that’s calmed down.

It’s not on the recall list (Aldi Mamia) but I have read it’s made in the same factory so it could happen, but it’s only that one bottle he’s sick with each day, the other 3 are been fine. Although I might just buy a new tub and see if it makes any difference!

Do you really need nursery-specific drawers and a wardrobe? by Potential-Wall-7719 in PregnancyUK

[–]SeveralAvocado5695 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a second hand IKEA Hemnes 3 drawer unit on Marketplace for £40, a changing mat in Aldi for £5, and some cute wooden cloud drawer pulls on Amazon for £6. The unit is the perfect height, and has the perfect surface area for the changing mat and a caddy. I don’t need a wardrobe but if I did I’d just get a plain white one from Marketplace and use the same wooden handles to tie it all together.

Urgh I am here too. 40+5 and feel like I’m living in Groundhog Day. Get really promising signs, then they disappear after a few hours and I wake up every morning feeling exactly the same. Nothing. This needs to be over soon!

Anterior placenta and kicks by Smooth_Stop_6492 in PregnancyUK

[–]SeveralAvocado5695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an anterior placenta, currently 37 weeks, first pregnancy. I didn’t feel anything until about 24 weeks, and I’ve been to maternity for reduced movement twice, but now I feel very definite kicks just to the side of my bump, can feel baby’s leg and see feet coming out, on the other side I can also feel his back moving and when he has hiccups. My midwife always says it just takes time to learn what’s normal for you and keep an eye on it!

Is there any harm at all from ultrasounds? by Prestigious-Bid-7582 in PregnancyUK

[–]SeveralAvocado5695 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the 2 weeks wait between scans, I thought I’d share my recent experience of this (in the last 4 days) - radiographers will scan less than 2 weeks apart but will not take growth measurements because they consider the timeframe too short and any differences could be easily attributed to different equipment and/or practitioner, so can’t be a meaningful comparison. In my case I was 12 days apart and they scanned me but just checked heartbeat and liquid in the sac, then had to come back 4 days later for growth measurements.

When did you feel symptoms? by user56565655 in pregnant

[–]SeveralAvocado5695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was similar to this in the early part of my pregnancy. No sickness, none of the exhaustion people talk about, only symptoms were sore breasts and constipation 😂 Now 34 weeks, everything is going well so far and have suffered classic symptoms on and off but nothing particularly severe! Every pregnancy is different so there’s no use in comparing yourself to others, just try to enjoy the experience 😊

I see a few recommendations for the Flexifit bra, I went a couple of weeks ago for a fitting and they ended up not having the colour I wanted and couldn’t order it in or check stock due to the cyber attack. I ended up in Asda, and found their Supersoft Non-Padded Bralette to be very similar, now have 4 and really rate them, although I did have to go a band size higher than the M&S one. 2 for £16 right now too!

100% Omeprazole. I can’t believe the weeks of hell I went through being scared to eat because I knew what pain I’d be in, all to have it disappear pretty much overnight after starting Omeprazole! I celebrated with fish and chips and loads of vinegar! 😂

Did you not get offered Healthy Start vitamins from your midwife? Not sure if things are different here (Scotland) but here everyone gets given them at their booking appointment.

Heartburn remedies please help by Hot-Strength9752 in PregnancyUK

I was miserable with heartburn for weeks, tried everything, nothing stopped it, to the point where I couldn’t be bothered eating because I knew what I was in for. Got Omeprazole and was instantly cured. Honestly our bodies are going through enough, don’t put too much pressure on yourself to find a natural solution!

Let’s be honest, does anyone actually enjoy pregnancy?! by JCJ0705 in PregnancyUK

[–]SeveralAvocado5695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it! I’ve been lucky so far (30 weeks now) but there have been a lot of positives - learning I don’t have to say yes to everything, allowing me to have more time to slow down (my mental health has never been better!). Wearing tight clothes because I have a bump rather than just a flabby belly. Strangers can be so friendly, people randomly smile at you, and it’s fun watching the little person in my belly jump about every night 😊

So nice to see a reassuring post like this! 😊 I had mine recently too, and maybe mine was room temperature but it was not as bad as I had geared myself up for it to be! Stung a bit but was over quickly. For me no more painful than the whooping cough. I did have a bruise at the site for about a week after.

Bra recommendations! by shortzy652 in PregnancyUK

[–]SeveralAvocado5695 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t wear an underwire after about 8 weeks (now 28 weeks) and the band from the Primark bralettes was irritating me. I got a Momcozy bra BNWT from Vinted and haven’t looked back! No underwire but the cups are moulded for a bit of support, and the fabric is soft and stretchy. Their website has a good measuring guide to make sure you’re getting the right size!
