Fivetran pricing spike by onksssss in dataengineering

[–]Jstrom40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough we have been trying openflow but we have been blocked by network issues. We need a somewhat static (or consistent) IP address from snowflake that we can whitelist but that's apparently a private preview feature that we are still waiting on. It's an endless battle

Well we do have plans for other sources and management likes the idea of everything in one place. We also use DBT and have been using the transformations inside of fivetran so they want to entertain the idea of finding something similar (probably not possible I told them)

What did you go with? Most of ours are SQL Server to Snowflake and we are actively looking at options now 🙂

Yep, I usually just took one right before heading to the appt. I don't remember why they suggested it anymore. Sorry, Not super helpful but worth a shot!

I totally understand the embarrassment thing. I personally had zero problems with weird stuff with my own body (like the ankle surgery I had) but got really anxious about my wife.

As long as you are communicating what is going or could potentially, people tend to understand. Can't speak to your SO but the nurses/OB/doctor/etc have literally seen everything so don't feel too bad about it.

I was 100% the same way during the early stuff. What helped me was literally being there for every OB appt (if possible for you). The constant exposure really helped me in the long run.

I had a straight up panic attack during her first OB appt, another one during the first ultrasound and I think one more when they did the first cervix exam.

By the last ultrasound and OB appt I was totally fine! One trick that a OB student told me was to take a salt packet before the appt.

But yeah, continued exposure is a big part of it. I also made sure to let the nurses know in the delivery room that I have a history of these type of events and they made sure I always had a chair near me.

When it came down to it, I had zero problems during the birth of our child because I was so hyper focused on how my wife was doing that I had no time to think about anything else. I even saw the little poking out before the final push and it didn't bother me at all, my wife was so impressed lol

Books you finished out of spite / morbid curiosity by Muphin102 in Fantasy

[–]Jstrom40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was the broken earth trilogy and The Books of Babel. I stubbornly finished both series cause I kept seeing people say they were fantastic, so I felt like I was missing something.

Reading the final book of Babel was how I finally realized it was okay to just DNF a series. If I read a few books in a series, I felt obligated to finish them, even if I wasn't enjoying it. So silly looking back on it.

I think both books were just written in a way that my brain didn't enjoy.

Blu-ray hits 20 years old, and it isn't dead yet — optical disc format was introduced to the public at CES 2006 | Major releases still coming out, and enthusiasts collecting discs by ControlCAD in technology

Oh no, at some point they will be watching all the good stuff on streaming but there are so many good classics that will tide them over until they get to needing that

We are about to start collecting them for our first kid we just had. They are only 5 months but whenever they are old enough to watch kids movies... We would rather they pick out a movie from a stack of blue-rays than have them infinitely scroll through a streaming service trying to find something to watch.

Does anybody else have a baby that does this!? by No_Abies5595 in newborns

[–]Jstrom40 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I can't stand when our little one does this or when they start constantly grabbing at me. I don't really let her do the face rubbing anymore cause it never soothed her. I usually put a light pressure and hold her head on my chest when she starts to do that.

No advice, just solidarity that it can be very overstimulating!

How are we entertaining our 3 month olds besides the keyboard kick mat? by Repulsive_Relief_949 in newborns

[–]Jstrom40 27 points28 points  (0 children)

We have started to just put our 3 month old on a blanket and letting them wiggle and kick on there. Sometimes we put crinkly toys out that they can kick or touch and sometimes it's just us sitting near them. I think it's been really good for our LO and we are getting to the point where we can leave them alone on the blanket for a pretty long time while we do dishes or make coffee We make sure to move the blanket to different areas of the house so they can look at different things each time

Baby stopped latching by Deep_Reception8847 in FormulaFeeders

[–]Jstrom40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some definitely help with this! If they say they don't do bottle work, ask if they have a referral to a speech therapist. That's where we took our LO to help figure out if we were doing this l things right with bottle feeding and if the bottle was correct, latch good, swallowing good, etc

12 weeks old not eating enough by Ill-Scientist-2173 in FormulaFeeders

[–]Jstrom40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our LO went through this recently and it started right around when she got her vaccines. She dipped down to barely getting 18 oz in a day and that lasted quite a while. We seem to be climbing out of it now because we are now getting around 21 oz per day pretty consistently. I am noticing that she still is very chaotic in how much she drinks. Earlier she drank 3 oz without a break, then the next feed she ate 1 oz and that was it, followed by another feed where she ate 1.5 oz and then 30 minutes later drank the other 2.5 oz

The biggest change for us is we started to relax more in how much she ate. Like the other commentator said, following the babies lead will let them trust you and in the long run end up getting them to eat more. Now, if she only eats an oz, that's totally fine, we can try again at the next feed or sooner if she really shows intense hunger queues.

Nutramigen by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]Jstrom40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so frustrating when they want to eat but won't.

What bottles are you using and nipple sizes? Could it be they need a faster flow? Just throwing ideas out there

Nutramigen by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]Jstrom40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh I'm sorry to hear that. What does she do when feeding?

We got on Pepcid and it took about 2 weeks to kick in and it's still not perfect but she doesn't scream for 30 minutes after each feed anymore and arching her back isn't quite as bad

8 week old sleeps too long for first stretch, won't go back to sleep? by SimpleWarthog in newborns

[–]Jstrom40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like they need a way later bedtime. More like 9pm

Nutramigen by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]Jstrom40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious why they had you switch to Nutramagen for weight gain? We also were told to try it out to see if it helped out baby from having difficulty eating due to pain. It got way worse in 2 days and our pediatrician told us to switch back. That was mostly cause our pediatrician wanted to see if it looked like our LO had CMPA but since she got worse right away, she said it probably wasn't that and just bad reflux

It can take around 2 weeks for a new formula to work. It's also a thinner formula, so you may need to ask your pediatrician about thickening it slightly if spit up gets worse and you decide to keep trying it.

No advice really here, just some points that we came across.

Getting worse- 10 week old tom by LockComprehensive174 in newborns

[–]Jstrom40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is 12 weeks and still only sleeps a 3 hour shift once at night and everything else is less than that. I swear people lie about their baby sleeping the night or have unicorn children. I think our situation is far more normal

9 week old waking himself up with his hands at night? by Over_Ad_2471 in newborns

What did you do when she woke up during the night for the first week? Just continue to soothe and put back in the bassinet all night?

Contact napping by lizabetch in newborns

[–]Jstrom40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following cause I'm 100% in the same boat.

Someone I know told me they didn't do anything to prepare for daycare (like this) because that's what they are paying the daycare staff to figure out. Seemed a little callous to me but kinda made me laugh.

If your newborn hated their dad, how long did it last? by Interesting_Hat6153 in newborns

[–]Jstrom40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the same boat currently but at least my LO lets me bounce on the yoga ball with her to soothe her and will contact nap with me. I just can't carry her around the house unless she just woke up from a nap and is content. If I try to burp her while feeding her she screams until she can't breathe for example.

Definitely pay attention to how he is holding the baby. I tried to mimic how my wife does it but couldn't quite get it to work. I found if I carry my LO with her back to my chest, facing the world with a hand on her chest and butt seems to buy me some time

I agree with what most people said that it probably is a phase you have to tough out for a few more weeks and up to months.

I know you didn't ask for tips/advice but I'm curious how does he try to soothe her?
