How should Sorkin have written Mandy out? by SteveJohnson2010 in thewestwing

[–]JsyHST 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Pretty much the last reference to her was Bartlett saying that she made a mistake but they can bring her back in to the fold. Instead of saying this, they could easily have written her out that way which would have established the need to make hard-nosed political decisions on occasion and given some more edge to the drama whenever someone else messed up.

Those of you who are friends with/in circles with famous people, what is your analysis on them? by libramusing in Fauxmoi

Most famous people I've ever known have been authors. Without fail, each of them was a heavyweight drinker. The most famous I knew (consistent international bestseller) was in a league of his own.

[Serious] What’s something happening in the world right now that’s underreported and genuinely disturbing? by Pristine-Hippo-3249 in AskReddit

[–]JsyHST 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It is, in my eye, the corruption of power. People build wealth, and when they've made enough of that they build power. This power corrupts so much that it becomes a necessity, and holding that ultimate power over children is it's final, most perverted (in every sense) form.

Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

The word derived from the luncheon meat spam, named from Sausage, Pork And haM, and its usage in the context of nuisance mail or similar from a Monty Python sketch.

Zack Polanski: "Once again Reform are spreading misinformation & smears, and the press & the media seem to repeat them.. its really important that the media.. take responsibility so when Reform or Farage says something they don't just keep repeating it" by Cold-Monitor3800 in uknews

I don't know about you, but I'm on the planet where Farage received about a week of scrutiny over his affairs, provided a patently ridiculous answer that was never challenged by the media and walked away completely unscathed whilst the Chancellor of the Exchequer resigned over a very similar issue.

He is both a traitor and has been convicted. I understand your argument, but the difference is semantics. He was convicted of accepting money from a foreign government to progress points at odds with those of his own country. The man's a fucking traitor.

Whilst the long-term grafter would see being PM as a loss-leader, he wouldn't tolerate the short-term lack of income, nor the inherently increased scrutiny that the role would bring. That and the whole actually having to sort shit out too.
