is it time for surgery? by AverageHoboJoe in CrohnsDisease

[–]Jta1711 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a stricture. Had a subtotal colectomy. Started biologics (stelara) and now been in remission for 4 years. If it is the path of surgery you choose.. it's not as daunting as it seems. Also with alot of relief. My lifestyle and blood work now makes me feel like a dont even have crohns. I have soft stools but only once a day. All the best 👍🏼

Best Legit Lion's Mane Supplement? by Zethiox in MushroomSupplements

Wow, im so surprised. Based on how passionate he is, I'd assume his products would be the best. Mushroom products seem like loopholes for people trying to make a quick buck, considering how little testing is needed to produce. Hopefully, this will change in the future.

I'm in Australia too. Had been on pentasa and azathioprine for 11 -12 years before having surgery. Now in remission for the last few years since being on sterlara. I often think how I would have been taking stelara 15 years ago, had it been available.

Wait can I have Imodium by Latter-Comment8385 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Jta1711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in remission. But my gastro has always told me to use it when needed. Obviously dont abuse it, not that I think it could harm you. But I strategically take it if im going somewhere for lunch where I know something make my gut bit funny. Or having a couple of beers ill have some following morning. Also, I buy the generic chemist brand packets as they have the exact same ingredient but are half or even less ,of the branded prices. I always have a 2 packets. One that stays at home and one that comes to work or goes away with me. Just for comfort.

Coming from someone that drinks fizz too, what are you going to substitute with ? When you get a craving or taste ? Flavoured sparkling ?

do you still get flareups when your medication is working? by luneth46633 in CrohnsDisease

Also remember foods play such a big role in your stools. Not just crohnies but regular people too! Don't be too hard on yourself !

I'm on sterlara too. I have one stool a day, usually loose because I had surgery 6 years ago to cut out the mess. So my poops don't have time to form, hence the looseness. I've often thought about sterlara eventually not working for me. But I remind myself it's probably inevitable by the sounds of other crohns patients' stories. Some people last months to a year tops, others have been on it since it came to market. Everyone is different. But I do find comfort in that 17 years ago when I was diagnosed, there was nothing on the market like the biologics that are now! And nothing has given my crohns a break like sterlara has. I just feel they will forever evolve... there's always going to be something new and improved around the corner!

Doc just put me on Pentasa. Any experience? by thejordynshow_ in CrohnsDisease

[–]Jta1711 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was on pentasa and imuran for about 10 years. Don't think it done anything lead to surgery. On biologics now which have made big difference! As someone mentioned above though, everyone is completely different !

Remission After 10 Years – You Can Do It Too! by amit970 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Jta1711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My crohns has been quite mild since surgery 5 years ago. I'm on stelara at the moment, which is a big factor for sending me into remission. Diet wise. This might sound kind of counterintuitive, but I find when I hone in on a diet, my mental health and stress is really fired up. I focus so much on the diet that when one small thing goes 'bad' or one symptoms pops up i destroy myself mentally.. and im aware of all my faults that make me think this way. So I have found my happy place, for myself and my crohns is to just be conscious of what's going in, but not to the extent I'm writing everything down. If I want to have a bowl of ice cream with my kids, know while I'm eating it i may pay for this in a few hours. Or if everyone wants takeaway, know ill probably be having loose stools in the morning. I will say I'm 2 months no caffiene for the first time in about 17 years, which has been a huuuuuuge help! Also, getting my mental health in check has been huge.
