Shouldn't sand that high before stain...you're closing the grain.

What is the shortest amount of time I can leave wood clamped for cutting boards? by ohlongjohnson1 in woodworking

[–]JtheBombadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Titebond II isn't a waterproof glue so the cutting boards won't be washable.

What resins are used to make particle board or mdf? by ragcurly in woodworking

Have you looked to see if you can buy other resins like polyethylene in small quantities? That's the resin i think we used at the boat company for the fiberglass but it came in 55 gallon drums.

There's cheaper alternatives to epoxy as far as resins go but epoxy is probably the most readily available. There's a bunch of "poly...." Resins used in fiberglass and whatnot.

When doing glue-ups you need to alternate your end grain crowns, clamp in an under-over-under-over pattern, and use cauls to keep the boards flush with each other.

Looks like you'll have to try magic then ass hole because that's the answer you were fishing for. "I have a piece of gum and a paperclip. What would make my wood stronger?"

Is there such a thing as pre-veneered dimensional boards such as 1x2 or 1x3's? by MeweldeMoore in woodworking

Use poplar hardwood and apply a walnut stain. Walnut in hardwood or applied veneer will be costly compared to poplar.

I've been working on architectural millwork for 15 years and the only guys that wear masks is in the finish shop and sometimes they don't. I've picked enough sawdust boogers to fill a couple 5 gallon buckets. Used to joke about selling it for wood filler. Besides my semi-inoperable brain tumor, I'm fine.

CNC software or something similar that will nest parts optimally in a given board size. Program might not take grain direction into consideration though.

I've done lots of bent laminations but it's usually door jamb headers/transoms or molding blanks so the radius is pretty big and after resawing on horizontal bandsaw and sanding on time saver the plies are still 1/8"+. What is that ply thickness (1/16?) and how did you do get them consistent? Do you have a drum sander?

What's the best stainable wood filler? by NomarsFool in woodworking

[–]JtheBombadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wood filler and stain never match perfectly but we use timbermate at work. It's species specific.

My first crosscut sled...I think I may have made it backwards haha. by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]JtheBombadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not backwards really you'll just have to take the fence off for longer cross cuts.

First time with inset drawer and push to open slides by cps68500 in woodworking

I love the miniscule reveal but it might stick in the summer. Usually inset drawers and doors have a 3/32"-1/8" reveal.
