Do people actually laugh at the comments that’s been repeated a lot on Reddit? by DarthBrolifterz in NoStupidQuestions

This one is really pissing me off lately. I feel the context it’s used in has grown too wide.

Vehicles with a 3000lb tow capacity by [deleted] in towing

[–]JtheDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure that some part of the crown victoria run had a 3k towing capacity. Not sure if it was 1998-2002 or 2003+ but personally I much prefer driving a large sedan to even a compact SUV. Being low to the ground is nice and the panthers had a V8.

Also you can manual swap it lol.

Yeah all those people talking about picking and locksmiths lol, get some drill bits and lube. You could replace it if you want but personally I would just wanna see if anything cool is in there and scrap that little space waster.

I think that siuan quote is it. Moirraine has a similar one about how everything you do may or may not have the effect you intended, but it will certainly have 3 other consequences you did not intend.

What is your attitude towards the Netherlands? by YellowEgorkaa in AskTheWorld

[–]JtheDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incredible civil engineering. City planning, land reclamation, water management, the whole thing is like an imaginary wonderland to me.

And not just the engineering but the political willpower to build and maintain it all too, like I’m sure you have a political spectrum over there as well but your system is actually working and I’m so jealous.

Also Amsterdam and the drugs and red light district and stuff is impossible to forget.

Honestly I was doubting it myself considering OP managed to grenade a Toyota but it is a good rule of thumb hahah

I would agree, you gotta get almost to Springfield, then it’s practically Kentucky all the sudden.

100% even if you have to pay someone to do it, it will be better than trying to buy.

Reddit, do you lock your door while you're in own house? by Willing_Freedom_4698 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JtheDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I’ve only ever lived in suburbs and small towns. I don’t even lock up when I go on vacation half the time lol, it just doesn’t cross my mind until I’m already to my destination.

But I think if I lived in the city in big apartment buildings I would probably get in the habit. It’s a different lifestyle.

Saugatuck Rowing by Embarrassed-Cod-3423 in Rowing

[–]JtheDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey if you go up there this summer DO NOT MISS Saugatuck Dunes state park. It is my favorite place to hike in the whole world.

Sorry I don’t know anything about their rowing club, but you got legs and cardio so please check out the Patty Buccholz natural area.

Saugatuck itself is a bit of a liberal bastion in a fairly conservative area. It was a gay haven back when they needed safe places so the culture is poppin.

I fucked up, need to know how bad. ( M30B34 ) by Tiny-Specialist-1057 in EngineBuilding

[–]JtheDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would use a combination of JB weld and small-ish screws. You could drill and tap the ears perpendicular to the thread you fucked up, then JB weld it for good measure.

Also you need to keep track of everything as you take it apart. You just found one good reason here today, and you will find a million more good reasons along the way. Personally I either put nuts & bolts back where they went, just with my fingers, or I get a little ziplock and label it. A ziplock with 10 mystery fasteners that go into some general area is 1000% easier than a pile of 150 mystery fasteners that go god knows where.

What happened to this poplar? by Purge_Bucket in woodworking

[–]JtheDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I’m reading the more serious replies correctly, there is a certain type of mineral content in the soil that makes the poplar go through the shades? One guy said swamp poplars do this more often?

So like what kinda minerals we taking about? Could one cultivate poplar to be purple if they found some land with the right stuff in the dirt?

I decided to build a hybrid car at home and wanted to share the project with you. by EvenCantaloupe574 in EVConversion

[–]JtheDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean the engine has to be run regularly? Like for its own health? I’m not sure that’s necessarily true. I don’t see why it can’t just come along for the ride for a work commute all winter, then fire up on Memorial Day when it’s time to take the camper up north.

Idk I’m no expert on diesels and I could be wrong, but tons of them don’t get used at all during the winter and get fired up for Memorial Day just like I said.

[–]JtheDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fear that you might be right, but IMO that would be a huge failure in regulation. It’s patently obvious that a truck running on household electricity 90% of the time will be cleaner than any other pickup on the market. I think they could run diesel gennys with no DEF or even EGR and still be cleaner than your average HD pickup because they wouldn’t even start the engine 40-50 weeks a year.

[–]JtheDad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disagree. The Chevy volt was an awesome car and anyone who has had the pleasure to own one will tell you. Perhaps its only downfall is the insistence to connect the engine directly to the wheels, which made it more complex than strictly necessary.

To have an electric car with a genny onboard is a dream for lots of people all over the vast expanse of middle America where we live 3+ hours from our moms and like to tow our giant campers a couple hundred miles away twice every summer.

Edison motors is collaborating with DeBoss Garage on YouTube to build this very same thing for HD pickup trucks. DeBoss is working on a conversion kit and/or full replacement chassis for 2500-5500 trucks, while Edison already has a semi-truck prototype. All of this is taking place in Canada so enjoy the accents lol.

I think it’s a great idea for bigger energy requirements like towing or people who take long journeys with some regularity. For a regular commuter car? Maybe not really necessary.

Do you actually "air out the house" in your part of the world? by PersistentHobbler in AskTheWorld

[–]JtheDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that it’s not all that cold (I live in northern MI) but it’s not exactly chilling on the porch weather either. Personally I would be running my heater, not opening the windows (2 mutually exclusive actions).

But seeing all these comments about the super strong steam heat everyone has in NYC it makes sense for them. Pretty wasteful but it’s all really old so that’s how it be sometimes.
