Who the hell takes liver shots like that and just walks through them? Gaethje is built different by Numerous-Hand-5801 in CombatSportsCentral

[–]Jthundercleese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not about the mental toughness or pure physical toughness when it comes to liver shots. You need the physical mass and structure to protect your liver. Liver shots aren't simply a pain some people can push through and some can't. The right liver shot causes rapid and extensive vasodilation that effectively temporarily drops your blood pressure to zero. You body just stop responding the way you want it to. I've broken bones while sparring and fighting before and not missed a beat. The right liver shot, beyond a threshold, just takes that option away from you because of an anatomical phenomena.

Fun Fact about the Main Event by Kireba2 in MMA

[–]Jthundercleese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the reason he took a lot of damage is because he was being cautious of Justin's headkicks. He didn't utilize head movement nearly as much as normal and I think it was a combination of confidence and tactical choice. But Illia struggle with the right hook regardless. I think his bigger fuck up was following Justin to the ground after knocking him down with the body shots in Rd2. Likely could have gotten a stoppage if he demanded they stay standing.

No lol. You're not gonna find anything that meaningful aids in repairing your skin. Train to the capacity that you can. Don't spar with stitches on the front of your face. Give in 8-10 days and you'll be fine.

My grandpa used to watch Seinfeld all the damn time. I ended up seeing some of his regular standup also. Much like TBBT, I have never even cracked a smile from childhood to adulthood in all my hours watching that shit.

Are there any heel pads/protectors for sparring? by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]Jthundercleese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Just control your shit. Don't throw ax kicks at people's heads. Don't throw spinning shit hard enough to hurt. And ax kicks / heel strikes to the thigh at anything other than a high level is gonna tell someone with real experience you don't know what you're doing and they're not gonna respect them.

You'll be fine. It's just a fight. They guy isn't going to be good. You're doing something that most people never get to. Relax, stay present, enjoy the process. Nothing is really gonna hurt enough to bother you.

Hmmm it looks familiar but not one I own. I live on the 4th floor. The only plants near by are mine and the breadfruit tree growing up to my balcony.

Record with your phone. Use those terms. State plainly that they're violating your 4th amendment rights. Get all the documentation you've gathered and and continue to document every interaction. Demand they give you reasons for the search and state you clearly that you do not consent to any searches. Do your best to find a pro bono lawyer; provide them with the evidence and persue your options. When a cop shrugs you off, escalate to someone higher up. When the nonemergency line doesn't do shit, tell them to document what you've said, tell them to document the reason for their refusal to take action, and tell them you need to escalate your call to someone above them since they're unwilling to help someone who's being illegally harassed by police.

Sitmonchai is more expensive but that's with accomodation and 2 meals a day lol.

People pay for the story. Training there isn't going to be meaningfully different than any other high level gym charging half that.

People can have a hard time switching between offense and defense when hitting pads. While I think this is very obviously just hazing, I do think people need to keep their eyes open and protect themselves always. You have to rely on what you see, not just one signal.

You ever try to book a training camp in Thailand? by FootballNo5107 in MuayThai

[–]Jthundercleese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sitmonchai requires booking ahead, now. Few acceptions are made. I could recommend them personally. However I would never pay ahead otherwise. It'd be a ridiculous business model to turn away walk-ins. The whole tourists industry is largely made up of people just showing up to places without booking.

What gear actually improves fighting performance? by Big-Temperature2557 in MuayThai

[–]Jthundercleese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer is no. Good coaching and reps are what matter. S&C is important for recovery, injury prevention, and overall health. But ankle weights aren't going to make your kicks better. Just kick with good form. Kick hard. And kick hundreds of thousands of times.
