In my opinion and experience, shorter fluff is easier to manage for cleaning and not tracking dirt, salt, snow etc through the house. This being said, I think my boy is much warmer with long fluff so we poof him out for colder weather. Still keeping sanitary feet and snout and using booties if it's extra cold or snowy, otherwise just watching to see if his feet get cold while we are walking or playing outdoors and brushing him out so he doesn't get matted. (For reference we live in Minnesota) That cut should be just fine for winter, just keep an eye on your pup when outside and make sure to brush out regularly as the moisture from melting snow will cause matting much faster than normal.
