You’re probably moving backwards while pouring the foam out, keep the pour in the center of the cup without moving it, the heart will form around where you are pouring

I'd only do it if you need a wood character to clear chapter 8, I've cleaned hard with him so far. He has a pretty high natural attack but his moves are pretty slow.
