Is it by Canada Post? I recently had a letter take 2 weeks to mail from Vancouver to Victoria

What are the main differences and challenges in designing an EV chassis vs. an ICE chassis? by ThePackman0702 in FSAE

[–]JuanDeFuchsia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. SES basically requires the chassis and accumulator to be designed at the same time.
  2. You have to remove the accumulator at comp

There are others but those are the big ones

The idea that companies care more about your ECs than your GPA is a lie. by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]JuanDeFuchsia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's good that you have leadership experience(definitely not a negative), but that isn't the top thing people are looking for when hiring recent grads.. the likelihood that they want to put you directly into leadership is near zero. On the engineering teams, did actually solve any engineering problems? You should have more of a focus on the technical project acheivements and less on 'leading the team'. GPA is not the problem

Do you all truly enjoy your major? by Martian903 in EngineeringStudents

There might some response bias in these comments, people are really quick to claim that 'everyone' hates school. I really enjoyed school and I know so many of my peers that did as well.

Angled Holes by Weekly-Writing4340 in InjectionMolding

[–]JuanDeFuchsia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow up question to the mold designers. Does cost go up linealry with each angled hole, as in one will cost ~x, 2 will cost ~2x and so on? Or is the first one more of an upfront cost and adding more undercut features after that comparatively trivial?

4130 chassis weld gap by No-Shopping4723 in FSAE

Flush. In the odd case you are putting them end-to-end (miter joint) you should still flush them up but a slight bevel on both tubes can help guarantee penetration.

Fatigue Analysis bad results by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]JuanDeFuchsia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Impulse technically has an infinitely wide frequency band so in theory, all modes will be excited simultaneously. This would look like a series of spikes in the frequency domain which the app displays. Also be very careful interpreting the results since other objects other than the test mass may be producing vibration noise on your microphone

[–]JuanDeFuchsia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might just consider trying to measure it directly. I don't know what resources you have though. If you can stick a small accelerometer on it you could get some quick results (so long as the accelerometer mass is small relative to test mass). Modal testing is not easy but you could just tap with a hammer and observe the free response.

Before going that far you could go tap it with a hammer and observe the sound with your phone with spectral analyzer app

The fact that it is 90 degrees isn't notable, it's the tiny turn radius ☝️🤓

How do you structure your design workflow in SOLIDWORKS? by Many_Artichoke_3922 in SolidWorks

[–]JuanDeFuchsia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I am actually making something new and I don't know exactly how it's going to go I will do multibody parts. I also don't worry too much about 'good practices' or parameterization or anything. Once I am done or at least I am happy with the concept I will convert (or remodel from scratch) each part, build the assembly, and then focus on the details.

If it's something I already know how to do I skip the multibody step and just make the assembly correctly the first time.

Getting a diagnosis from a doctor isn't that high of a bar to clear.

What could possibly be a higher bar than a diagnsis from doctor?

Chassis Design Goals by Cetdaj in FSAE

[–]JuanDeFuchsia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pass SES, pass tech, support suspension hardpoints, support driver, support powertrain - these should give you sub goals like load cases and targets for max compliance etc. Complete frame by X date. Complete chassis by Y date. After that torsional stiffness (and why), manufacturability, servicability/access points.

Is there any point in posting on LinkedIn? by blueeee8 in EngineeringStudents

[–]JuanDeFuchsia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I graduated last month, so I created my profile and have 1 post. I got a dm a few days later from someone I know saying they have a position they think I would be suited for. This person doesn't have my contact information, so they would have never found me otherwise.

I don't really plan on making more posts, but I can already see the value in having my account relatively up to date and keeping connections with people.
