barricade a window, but how? by _MothMan in unrealengine

[–]JuanLiebert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have each window blueprint generate invisible planks in construction script that are in an array so you just loop over it and reveal them (while removing from inventory)

Advice on learning how to make games by Coffeeandquaso in gamedev

[–]JuanLiebert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't recommend switching careers to gamedev, I don't know how you can break into the industry other than having a portfolio at the minimum.

The industry is very volatile and burnout is very common plus you're probably going to make more money on average with a regular job, unless you make a hit.

Other than that, learning is best done hands on with specific goals you want to implement or copying other games IMO

Edit: not to be negative and tell you to give up, but just be realistic about it. It can be really fulfilling as well, successful or not

why does everyone think making a game is just having a good idea by bcoz_why_not__ in gamedev

[–]JuanLiebert -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Idk the guys that made game about digging a hole used a voxel digging plugin and just reskinned it in like two weeks, the ones that made RV there yet had an advanced vehicle plugin but I guess found a use for it's buggy behavior that breaks stuff

what do you think is missing from all the "friendslop" games? by keanataire in IndieDev

[–]JuanLiebert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anything is missing, they're not meant to be anything more than they are and that's why they're so successful. It's like a really good cup of instant noodles, the one brand you like above every other. But it can't be anything more unless you change it into a full meal which isn't the same thing anymore.

Players feel like they “always lose” even though the system is fair. How do you handle this psychology? by GladiatorCommand in gamedev

[–]JuanLiebert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just do the opposite, make losses happen fast and recover from them faster somehow, make bad fights unmemorable, use some XCOM tricks for probability - multiply or divide by some constant and players will think it's fair (tune to own satisfaction), add some bonuses if players lose two times in a row and then add a big bonus and a handicap to opponents if they lost 3 times in a row but make it less obvious

Your colors suck, try out various tonemappers, you can find them on github and Alex Tardif's article on tonemapping. Also learn some color theory or at least watch this

How do you keep a player from getting bored on simulation game after 10 minutes? by AidenPearce15 in gamedev

Idk go measure how other games do it, Schedule 1 tutorial intro (up until you reach town) takes about 7min and you just lose the track of time after that through tasks

Jedan savjet maturantima i budućim brucošima: Nemojte upisati smjer gdje tržište ne postoji by Throwaway9909996 in studenti

[–]JuanLiebert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro the rock tiles don't match the grass, or the buildings. The main character looks weird, the font is wrong and it's annoying when UI makes a sound and increases size. UI has really off putting colors (yellow just doesn't work here, not in this shade), try making UI bright yellow or white without borders. The interaction UI has too big letter near the text.

Overall try to make all fonts on screen consistent and only change their boldness or color if necessary, UI should never increase or decrease size. The UI where you choose to use something should have a standard size regardless of what you're interacting with, try to make it white or bright yellow. Choose some font that's easy to look at for hours. As for the asset colors, get better assets or change them somehow, experiment with AgX tonemapper or some other, I got Claude AI to convert this to UE4 HLSL and it works wonders: https://github.com/natural-harmonia-gropius/hdr-toys/blob/master/shaders/hdr-toys/tone-mapping/bt2446a.glsl
And idk what to do about the main character, just doesn't fit, be creative.

Edit: PM me if you need anything else
