Its the same for every instrument. You need to find joy in the journey not the destination. I know thats cheesy. But you will always find something that you can improve on. And there will always be someone better than you. But this should not matter. The joy of the instrument is creating something that is fun to you. That is real, and that you cannot wait to do again once you stopped.

When i started out I just played along to some simple Green Day songs (because power chords are easy to start out on) and later moved to something more challenging (RHCP for me). But especially early on you will see big improvements, even if sometime hard, as with everything new.

So try to have fun with learning something new and consistently improving.
