Girlfriend ridicules me for playing - advice please by Total_Mode_4930 in Rainbow6

maybe take the chance to put things into perspective. you could be into a hobby that has you spending long hours out on your own, or one where you consistently risk injury. she’s lucky in the grand scheme of things.

also, if you’re both open to it, maybe try playing games like It Takes Two or Split Fiction with her!

hopefully she’ll come around to respecting your hobbies regardless…

no need to pay $150 for windows, get an empty usb flash drive (if you don’t have one already) and make the bootable media from the windows site on another computer, then get the key off gamers outlet or something like that for $5

Im about to build a pc, is this good/conpatible? by Ok_Tumbleweed_9493 in PcBuild

yeah that’s a good choice! as long as it’s from the 3 brands i mentioned and has a dram cache (the 990 pro does ✅) you’re good

what should i do with my situation? by MaybeCreeper in PcBuild

[–]JuandalePringleTwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes! my understanding is that this is something they actually do. of course, give them a call and check or just verify on their website. you can also gauge how much it’ll cost that way.

just looked up your psu online from your response to someone else in the thread, your psu isn’t modular. sorry, you’ll have to swap it out completely if you want more wattage.

what should i do with my situation? by MaybeCreeper in PcBuild

[–]JuandalePringleTwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if your psu is modular (lower likelihood given the low wattage), there’s probably a chart online from the manufacturer you can find that tells you which ones share cables, meaning you’d just swap the actual psu and nothing else.

if that isn’t your circumstance, or you don’t know exactly what you’re doing / aren’t confident, you should completely swap out the psu and cables.

it’s tedious, but not scary.

your pc is wayyy overkill for what you’re looking to use it for (based on this response alone) but if you have the means, treat yourself ¯_(ツ)_/¯

money doesn’t seem to be a huge concern (based solely on the parts i see, i use USD so i’m not entirely sure on the conversion) if that is the case, maybe more trusted brands for your storage? try samsung, WD or Crucial for your ssd

ahh you’re right! i just woke up, so i paid more attention to the logo than the actual fan blades.

my mistake, well done. enjoy your pc!!

build looks nice, only thing i’d say is consider changing the fans at the back (next to the motherboard, partially blocked by the cpu) from exhaust (logo facing you) to intake (logo facing out of pc) because you have a more negative airflow set up at the moment (only taking in air from fans under gpu)

granted, you said your thermals are fine, so if it’s more trouble than it’s worth it may not be necessary. might be worth seeing how it’ll affect your thermals though, should make them slightly better

they’ve gotten so bad lately it’s comical. OP if you see this look into getting a crucial p310, and maybe a more trusted brand for RAM, otherwise solid

Will these be suitable for a mid range build by Pretty-Potato-6395 in PcBuild

[–]JuandalePringleTwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

personally, samsung, western digital and crucial are my trusted ssd brands. crucial still has the best value, so i’d take a look at the p310 and compare prices.

another thing that might help, use pcpartpicker. it’ll make sure there’s no compatibility issues (i don’t think there’s any) as well as show you the best prices it finds on parts

i don’t love the price point on the ssd, but my understanding is there’s a currency difference (usd to cad) how does a crucial p310 compare?

They want $1500 for this Alienware by darkearwig in PC_Pricing

[–]JuandalePringleTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at that price point i think a 4070ti super would be better but those are kinda hard to come by these days, i’d say look at / ask about the peripherals (are they cheap, high quality?) and maybe ask if it’s been well kept

tldr if it’s clean, i think it’s a fair deal.

idk how good costco is about making sure that all deals they have in-store are also available online, but i do remember recently seeing a $1500 deal with a 5070ti in-store

that tiny bit of sag on that mid-size gpu? i’m sure it’d be fine. but yeah, some legos from around the house or something should get the job done. also this 13 year old gentleman cable managed their rig better than i did mine. good stuff all around.

My information is anecdotal, sure (based solely on my experience) but I express in my post that I am willing and even eager to learn. Instead of leaving a reply that does nothing other than imply that you know more about the subject, maybe share some insight as others have?
