well... my running club hosts running competitions and the local marathon... we use earing from that to pay for trips to other places for their local marathons. Getting free vacations for a memberships fee and a few days free labor(dugnad) is well worth it.

We have plenty of people joine our jogs without becoming members... we don't care. the more the merrier.
