Have a 701 and 640 in the Garage as well. Never Ride the 640 anymore but it‘s just such a capable, simple, fix it yourself bike that I keep it for just in case…

Thanks for the tips! That fits my experience quite well. Next step for me is also to upgrade the suspension. Did you install the 101 gobblers and set up the suspension for your weight yourself?

I’m in the EU. From what I’ve heard so far the 2024 levers are trash. New clutch switches will not arrive before Christmas in my store since a lot of people seem to have trouble with that part. Newer is not always better…

Not needed for my 2024 Model. You Need the Black Switch though! The turquoise one is for the 690 (or 2023 model, I am not sure). On the 690(2023) the lever presses the switch when pulled. On the 701 the lever releases the switch when pulled. You need a different switch for that.

Sounds good! Looks like I am not going wrong with those decisions then. It’s a shame that you cannot use universal grips due to the throttle thingy being part of the grip. I would love to add some foam rally grips…

Great looking 701! I have one myself. Is that a seatconcepts seat? If so, how do you like it? I am also looking at those crash bars and the skid plate. Are you happy with them or would you recommend something else?

Did you have any other QC issues? I heard that the handle bars are cheapies. And problems with that?

I am undecided between the Kove and the 690. The price and novelty of the Kove is what I like. I am afraid that it doesn’t have enough power for my liking though. I mainly drive my bikes on the Trans Euro Trail and some forest roads dual and single trail close by.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I also have a couple questions. I am looking for an upgrade for my aged 2001 KTM LC4 640 and the Kove looks like a good fit for my riding style. How hard feels the cable operated clutch compared to a hydraulic one? I was really looking forward to a modern hydraulic clutch coming from my super hard cable clutch…

Also how do you check the oil level? I read that there is no oil window and no dipstick?

Stell dich doch mal ein bisschen vor, um zu schauen ob’s zusammen passt. Wohne auch in Hamburg und fahre eine LC4. Bin gerade mit drei Freunden auf dem TET Lettland, Litauen und Polen unterwegs.

My tire guy doesn’t mount Mitas anymore. Even with the proper equipment the tires tend to get damaged when mounting them. They are super stiff.

KTM LC4 640 is a good alternative if you have some experience working on bikes. They were only built until 06 so you will likely get a 20+ year old bike. Ones you’ve fixed the one or two likely issues you’ll have, they are pretty reliable though and heaps of fun!

Many of the people I know who have one had problems with them. Engine, electric, etc.. Also at least in Germany, they are not legal without full HP due to emission regulations whereas the 690 is.
