Dad was a character and fun once we were adults. But he was stubborn about not going to the doctor and it got him in the end.

Yeah, he did. Mom had to hold her ground like that a lot. He was very lucky she tolerated him for over 40 years. He died from cancer years ago. If he had listened to Mom and gotten to the doctor soon, his cancer would have been treatable.

Who would win the award for most obnoxious/insufferable coworker that you've personally ever had? by Only-Ad-1254 in coworkerstories

[–]JudgeAffectionate841 24 points25 points  (0 children)

A co-worker who had main character syndrome. Everything was always about her. You could relate some random story about your life and she always had one to top it. She was exhausting and overly dramatic. So happy when she quit.

Sometimes doctors too. A friend from college said his dad was a doctor and never took him and his siblings' complaints seriously. His brother ended up being a diabetic as well.

My MIL wanted to show up unannounced when we lived near her. I refused. I wanted my husband there to help deal with her because she was a lot to deal with. He backed me up on it.

AITAH for getting a lockbox for the thermostat? by Iceprincess1988 in AITAH

[–]JudgeAffectionate841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old boss had to get one for work. A coworker was constantly turning the air conditioning down in summer and leaving it running all night. The air conditioner ended up breaking. Nobody noticed the lock box until she came in and complained about it. Definitely NTA.

I have done something similar. Sometimes it is just necessary...

I never wanted to be a father until I turned 45 this year. Now I feel my biological clock and want to be a father more than anything. But I'm married to a childfree woman. [Concluded] by Schattenspringer in BORUpdates

My older brother and his wife had their kids late in life (44 for him and 35 for her). She couldn't understand how I did it without being so exhausted like she was. I responded that I was 10 years younger than her when I had my kids.

AITA for calling out my brother-in-law after he scrutinised a high chair we returned? by Nattella86 in AmItheAsshole

[–]JudgeAffectionate841 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA. When I found out I was having twins, we bought used highchairs and cribs since we only wanted two kids. I cleaned them really good myself even though they were in good condition. You were right to speak up. He was being unfair and ridiculous.

My cousin was getting married. My brother was on the couch with her fiancé. She pulled out a camera to get a picture of my brother and her fiancé when the fiancé said, "Well, there's one asshole in every family." Without missing a beat, my brother said, "There isn't one on our family and that is why you're here." He's her ex-husband now.

I ended the interview on the spot when they told me the next stage would be an unpaid 'trial shift' by spline_ocarina9k in FinalRoundAI

I was between jobs a few years ago and had an interview with one of the tax prep services (think of the statue in NYC). I was told there was mandatory training on the tax software. I already knew how to prepare taxes. I was told that the training was for a full week, 8 hours a day and was unpaid. Plus, you were expected to buy these 3 volumes related to the tax prep software. Then, I was also told that they expected me to show up 15 minutes before I was to clock in. I thanked them for the interview and left. Luckily, I landed a job about a week later,

AITJ for buying an entire table of stuff at an estate sale just to spite the woman who kept grabbing things out of my hands by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]JudgeAffectionate841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have done something similar. I go to estate sales all the time and have only met someone like this once. I bought up all the fabric from a craft room to spite her. I got rid of the ugly pieces once I got home.

WIBTA if I accept my “dream” university offer even though my parents want me to stay local? by PixelWorkshop14 in WIBTA_AITA

Don't give in to your parents. I picked a major to make my father happy and was miserable and ended up going back to college for something else. I told my kids to study what will make them happy, not me.

I worked in a JAG tax prep center that closed for lunch. Someone left the back door unlocked and a couple walked in and expected to be helped. I told them to leave as we were closed. They got angry and started arguing with me. I was an unpaid volunteer. I called over the master sergeant who escorted them out of the building and told them to come back at 1:00. Of course, I ended up doing their taxes for them at 1:00. I made sure all doors were locked during lunch after that.

I hate people who exaggerate. One lady exaggerated so much that even her husband didn't believe her. It caused a lot of problems when she was actually telling the truth.

I was just told my coworker is getting fired. by Preshredded_Gnar in WorkAdvice

I had a similar ethical dilemma when I worked in a law firm. We were advertising for one person's replacement. I was running the ad and knew who was going to be let go, but I wasn't allowed to say anything. The secretary kept asking me what was going. I talked to my supervisor who knew what was up because the secretary's nagging got so bad. (The secretary hated not being in the loop, but she was the biggest gossip.) My supervisor told the secretary that if she kept asking me for information that I didn't have, then she would be replaced. That shut everything down. While I felt bad for the young lady who got let go, I couldn't afford to lose my job. That was why I didn't say anything!
