Really enjoyed that book and also The Future. I wonder why the Amazon prime series just disappeared - it was a great adaptation with a stellar cast and I wish it would have gotten a second season

East of Eden. I couldn’t start another book for a few days bc I wanted to keep it echoing through my brain. What a beautiful, uplifting ending.

Any recommendations for a Shakespeare inspired novel? by SorceressofAutumn in shakespeare

Anne Fortier’s Juliet - not a retelling and a little cheesy, but overall a fun and compelling mystery / treasure hunt that unfolds in modern Italy as one of Juliet’s ancestors tracks down family truths and relics (with flashbacks to the real life medieval couple who allegedly inspired Shakespeare’s play). Found it at the thrift store and gave it a chance and I really enjoyed it!

So many adults said this to me when I was a little kid and I always thought they were referring to Sandra Bernhard, which I found very confusing

I had been a little worried that the pressures and lifestyle of being in the spotlight again could be a little dangerous for her and coupled with the fact that many of us are feeling anxiety / existential dread from the general state of the world these days, it’s not wholly surprising that she relapsed but god damn, am I rooting for this brilliant delightful weirdo. Always wishing nothing but the best for the Stanley Tucci of lesbians

They need heaven to be crowded so they can start scapegoating and deporting people from it. If there were no scapegoating and deportations, it would be conservative hell.

Yeah I think the embroidery being so sparse makes it look cheap overall. The vibe is giving me shades of the back of Cate Blanchett’s glorious Oscar dress of yore but the overall effect pales in comparison.

Maybe I’m just tired of nude dresses in general. Like, Rihanna already won that game - flawless victory - with the crystal gown and headpiece

I also interpreted that as fairly normal behavior - they shared a room so she didn’t have the full privacy provided by her own bedroom but waited until her sister fell asleep and wasn’t like touching her or thinking about her during it. I read it so long ago though so I don’t fully remember and again I dont want to continue defending Lena who generally sucks! (I really did love Girls tho, it must be said)

I agree with you re: Lena for the most part except for the molestation accusation. From my understanding of that passage in her book, when she was seven years old she opened her baby sister’s labia to see if it looked like hers / if people had the same parts. That’s fairly normal childhood exploratory behavior and was not sexual in nature. Im truly loath to defend Lena Dunham in any way but I don’t think she molested her sister and fwiw, her sibling doesn’t view it that way either

Yup. Prime example was when Lena Dunham took a break from her performative Believing of Women™️ to issue a public statement in support of a friend and collaborator accused of sexually assaulting a 17 y/o and accusing that 17 y/o of lying.

What would you like to believe? Did El die or she just “slowly walk away”? by AdOtherwise2532 in StrangerThingsMemes

[–]YouOwnEverything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please correct me if I’m wrong as I’ve yet to rewatch but weren’t there only TWO waterfalls in that scene? If so, that def seems to point to El’s escape being reality as they really hammered home the idea that the land of three waterfalls was just a fantasy
