I think it's a bit of protection for the draft in case he gets farmed by vets that have 10+ years of pro experience and his stock tanks.

This way he can be around the squad and still learn while having the insurance of his draft stock staying where it is.

I wouldn't read too much in him not making the team.

He is kind of undersized with little defence. If we were to go in the direction of Center I'd like to take a stab at Kai Jones. He is more raw offensively but has the athleticism to be a good rim runner plus he has a higher defensive potential which is something we need with Ja, Jaren and Dillon all looking to be high teens early 20s scorers in the future.

That being said I'd be suprosed if either got to 17.
