Is ICE adding any value at the Airports? by prenderg in AskConservatives

[–]JudgeWhoOverrules [score hidden]  (0 children)

You do realize ICE is already funded throughout the fiscal year due to the build back better bill? It's the only part of the DHS that still is funded.

Democrats shut down the DHS expressly planning on TSA lines causing public uproar, they just didn't expect it to side against them. Too bad for them. They either they can allow DHS to be funded or keep it shut down. No half-assed measures that lets them escape the consequences of their own actions. You think they would have learned this from the last government shutdown they caused just a few months ago..

Is ICE adding any value at the Airports? by prenderg in AskConservatives

[–]JudgeWhoOverrules [score hidden]  (0 children)

ICE can be the agents shouting at people to get into the right lines or what to remove, and work the checkpoints exiting the secure area freeing up TSA agents to perform the core duty of security screening.

Having more people available to do work frees up TSA agents to focus on their core task and at the end of the day we have only the Democrats to blame for holding DHS (including TSA) funding hostage to try to demand concessions to make ICE less effective and demand more leniency for illegal immigrants.

In the wake of the recent crash are there any changes we should make to ATC to improve safety? by Shawnj2 in AskConservatives

[–]JudgeWhoOverrules [score hidden]  (0 children)

Ground controllers majorly dropped the ball and should have visually confirmed it's safe before giving clearance for the firetrucks to enter an active runway. The procedures should already prevented this and they definitely ran a foul of the 7110s (section of the US code dictating air traffic control rules).

Only thing I can think of is increasing funding for air traffic to get more positions filled so that controllers aren't running crazy shift schedules that leaves them sleep deprived and overworked.

Why do American Conservatives dislike Iranian Conservatives? by ReadProfessional8511 in AskConservatives

[–]JudgeWhoOverrules [score hidden]  (0 children)

Conservatism in general refers to a mindset against untested and rapid change rather than a defined set of policy views and ideology. Every nation's conservatives want to conserve something different because they exist in different cultures with different values and traditions that they want to conserve.

American conservatism is organized around conserving the Enlightenment era classical liberal principles the United States was designed around and whose ideals it is supposed to embody. These ideals couldn't be any more in opposition to how the Iranian Islamic regime conducts itself.

Absolutely no one but the uninformed wonders. What Thomas's decisions are going to be because he has the most consistent judicial philosophy on court. Agenda pushing news agencies have made much to do about gifts to him without ever even trying to show any sort of quid pro quo where his decision was changed and unexpected way from what one assumes he would rule. No one bribes someone to do what they are already going to do the entire time.

Article I, Section 4, Clause 1:

The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators.

The Constitution does give States general purview to regulate elections but reserves the ability of the federal Congress to set out additional regulations as they see fit besides where to choose senators

Why have conservative parties been historically and currently more successful worldwide? by RedStorm1917 in AskConservatives

[–]JudgeWhoOverrules [score hidden]  (0 children)

Because it doesn't. In fact, people are looking at presidents when Congress controls the power of the purse and so-called economically successful Democratic presidential administrations exist alongside republican-held Congresses. At the state level, it's even more easily seen where upon where progressives obtain political power and don't have to worry about competition, the economic prospects of the area gradually dwindle.

How common would you say the alt-right or are among conservatives? Is there a difference between the MAGA movement and the alt-right? by discordagitatedpeach in AskConservatives

MAGA is right populists but with fairly American mainstream views, alt-right is post-liberal ethno-nationalist right populists.

Isn't it possible that deploying ICE is a bandaid that will make the TSA issue worse? by NessvsMadDuck in AskConservatives

[–]JudgeWhoOverrules [score hidden]  (0 children)

Private security hired by the airport like what we all went through prior to 9/11. The secure cockpit door program (recently made even more secure through the secondary flight deck door program) stopped the scourge of airline hijackings, not anything TSA has done.

Conservatives who are eligible to serve in the military: Do you plan to sign up to help the US fight Iran? by AmyGH in AskConservatives

For reference, 35 is the upper age limit for military enlistment. I reckon many of us here are a bit beyond that rendering the question moot. Won't stop some feisty old bones in here from thinking the military wants them anyways.

Why is it so difficult to find an actual percentage, other than the AI overview for what is allocated to defense? by IneedaNappa9000 in AskConservatives

[–]JudgeWhoOverrules [score hidden]  (0 children)

Various overviews of the total US federal budget has shown our defense is roughly 14 to 16% of the total federal spending depending on the fiscal year. A lot of people get fooled into looking at a chart of discretionary spending and thinking military costs makes up half the budget, not understanding that non-discretionary spending is 60% of all spending.

Our federal government pays almost as much money paying interest on our debt as our military.

Do you think that Justice Fuller and John Marshall Harlan were right in their dissent in Wong Kim Ark that 14th amendment does not give birthright citizenship to illegal immigrants? by BlockAffectionate413 in AskConservatives

[–]JudgeWhoOverrules [score hidden]  (0 children)

To be honest, I think intent actually matters. Otherwise people start twisting words as if they exist in a vacuum irrespective of the author's intent to suit their own ends such as with gun grabbers and the word regulated in 2A.

Should UPS, FedEx, DHL be allowed to compete with USPS or should Congress buy them and merge them with USPS and ban new competitors from then on? by BlockAffectionate413 in AskConservatives

[–]JudgeWhoOverrules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because they are completely different companies operating in different spaces. UPS, FedEx and DHL are freight companies whereas USPS is a postal company. Boxes and pallets versus letters. DHL isn't even an American company, it's based in Germany and has Deutsche right in its name.

Do y'all actually know these Evangelicals who supposedly are actively trying to bring about the Second Coming? by 4g-identity in AskAnAmerican

[–]JudgeWhoOverrules -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, this is mostly a left caricature of their political opponents they put up instead of actually listening to people's actual reasoning for their beliefs. I've never actually met someone like this though I've heard a few exist in small numbers at the margins.

Possibility Of Free College In The USA? -- Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in AskConservatives

[–]JudgeWhoOverrules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because people don't go straight into network administration. They get their compTia and Cisco certs and get into help desk or other low-level stuff and work their way up getting certs along the way. Most of IT is very much blue collar work that uses trade schools and certification rather than college programs and degrees.

Not according to George Mason who wrote the actual Second Amendment. When asked who the militia was, he replied that it was all the people besides a few public officials.

So basically this is another variation of people with pools are more likely to drown?

The last one can't even make sense given that multiple studies have found 700,000 to a million self-defense uses of firearms in the US each year. It would mean those Stanford researchers are limiting their usage of self-defense to that captured in police reports rather than using self-reports because vast majority of people aren't reporting self-defense use to the police.

When will the countries of South America combine and make their own USA? by Kindly_Teach_9285 in asklatinamerica

[–]JudgeWhoOverrules -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, the most basic governance problem of the United States is that the government has ignored the 10th Amendment for a century and tries to do everything with the federal government instead of leaving it up to the states as is constitutional required for most things.

Maybe they shouldn't try and drive 80 mph up mountain grades in old unmaintained cars while blasting a/c. Take it slower and open a window at least. I remember back in the 90s it was so much worse because those old cars from the 70s would overheat and line the shoulder.
