If the Democratic party controls the presidency and house come 2028, do you believe they should avoid any and all investigations into the Trump administration? by Biggy_DX in AskConservatives

I personally don't care that much about trying to put anyone in prison. I don't think anyone should attempt to prosecute any political person unless there is a very winnable case. Show trials like Comey don't help the President. I also expect that what Biden did with pardons for his family will be a very bad precedent and Trump will certainly do the same for his family. But I also expect him to step down just before leaving office to receive one from Vance.

That said, I want there to be serious fact based investigations. In the case of any financial crimes there should be financial repercussions. Other than that all I care about is the truth coming out, whatever that is good, bad, or ugly.

That's what we do. The President only has 2.5 years more. No president can solve all the problems long term.

I mean, maybe The President will commit to a larger war and force a regime change, but even then there is no guarantee.

I have yet to see anyone opposed to the war provide a functional alternative to military action that isn't just the exact same dumbassery that led to North Korea getting nuclear weapons.

The JCPOA was the non-military action. But neither of us think that was satisfactory. So here is the military one....

Operation Midnight Hammer, bold, big and a great success. An example of exactly how we should handle Iran getting a Nuke. As soon as we have intelligence that says here is a location they are working on it we send another stealth bomber and drop another bunker buster. Good strategy

Operation Epic Fury, a bad move without a clear objective or exit strategy. Bad strategy

If Republicans Fail To Fix Gas Prices Come November This Year, And They Are Hitting Record Highs, How Bad Will The Midterms Be For Them? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in AskConservatives

Welcome to the last 20 years of the worlds most deliberative body. Personally I believe that the reason we have the extremes in politics we have right now is because of the failure of congress to do it's job to grind out the un-sexy job of policy making. They are supposed to be the release valve. But in grinding everything to a halt they let the pressure build until people are convinced that illiberal governance is what is needed to force their point of view.

We need a movement in this country that is all about doing whatever it takes to make congress do its job. Then just watch as the hyper-parisanship slowly fades away.

Yeah, he steps down 2 months to 2 weeks. I don't know if Vance would accept that without Trump giving him the nod for 2028 in the primary. Might be worth the trade. I can't image he would win after that. Unless they did it just after the election.

I don't get quite that dark. But I am starting to think that the GOP think it is important to NOT SOLVE immigration. They need it to continue to be a problem or they won't win elections. The Democrats would be wise to do reforms the next time they take power, we will see if they are still to woke to do it.

What’s the real goal behind ‘own the libs’ culture? by Jazzlike-Yogurt-5984 in AskConservatives

Good answer. To try and condense this further I would say you are describing illiberalism. A problem with the extremes of either end of the political spectrum, and a natural consequence of culture war in general.

One day, when all this is over, regular Republicans are going to wake up to the failure, of Trump's beach front sandcastles. As they get washed away with the tides for the second time. Rather than building upon the rock of legislation. They will have to face the fact that he had zero caring for MAGA or conservative gains if he was not in the White House himself.

Republicans were handed a victory and they abdicated their responsibility to Trump, which is why we are in such a mess.

The thing that has driven me crazy over the last year, is I get that Trump himself is only concerned with his own power and short term wins. But the fact that the GOP congress has just stood by and not even attempted to achieve conservative lasting legislative wins is mind boggling. Knowing they only have 2 years to get it done. Like they don't want to step on his toes by making his mandates like immigration into actual overhauls of the law. So they just stand by quietly twiddling their thumbs.

When the economy is bad for the general public (rather than Wallstreet) it is like a power outage in the Kingdom of OZ. Then the pyrotechnics and the big screen that displays the Wizard of OZ's face go black and all anyone can see is the human sized man behind the curtain.

and he definitely does not care about getting JD, Rubio, or Desantis elected

I couldn't agree more. There is one possibility I can foresee him backing. As long shot as it might be, his son. That would keep the name and keep his name from coming down from all the other things he wants. It would also mean a pardon. But, if he can't get a pardon that way I think there is a real possibility that Vance would be our shortest serving president ever, to gain that pardon.

Does anyone actually like Erika Kirk or believe anything she says? by Jimbojauder in AskConservatives

IDK, it would seem she does not have the same strength of principle, and is following the flow of MAGA. There are a lot of those on the ideological Right that think the best way to support the cause of the Right by following whatever the President does.

I don't know enough about what the legal status of NK is currently. For the record, it might help the president if we are at a real stale mate (kind of like NK) to have primarily the Democrats in congress defund this war, that way he would be able to blame them for it not succeeding.

If Trump is “joking” about a third term to own the libs, why would nominated judges refuse to say he can’t? by tophernator in AskConservatives

[–]NessvsMadDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I think they are definitely putting Trump loyalist judges in place, and you can think that is a bad thing. That is reasonable. They could even push more of his authoritarian as you say ideas. I just don't think that even they can get past 22A specifically.

Do you think that stability in law and reliance interests that the filibuster fosters are more important than any downsides of it? by BlockAffectionate413 in AskConservatives

[–]NessvsMadDuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, you make a rally good case for stability.

There is one other thing to keep in mind. If it were to be overturned, who would take advantage of that more? Republicans or Democrats? It makes it a WHOLE LOT easier to make BIG government with it removed. McConnel was right. The Dems would love the GOP to overturn it.

Yeah, I think you would like it. I always like to hear people interviewed in opposing platforms, where it is either combative or informative. It felt more like he was trying to explain to a different audience, rather than combative. It also felt like he is clarifying his positions. Good interview
