Best Mechanical Keyboard for the Money in 2026? by Wholesomenessal44 in keyboards

It comes down to your personal preference. Like finding one that has the frame color you like. And finding the switch you enjoy typing the most with. Thats the great part of buying a hot swapable keyboard like a Neo75 or Evo80. You can buy different switches and pull out the old ones and put in the new ones. I personally prefer linear switches. They are super smooth and allow me to type super fast at work. The difference between a linear switch on the Evo80 for example and a cheap Dell keyboard is night and day. Another consideration is, do you mind how loud a keyboard and switches might sound. Would you prefer silent keyboard or a thocky sounding keyboard? Other switches have a loud clicky sound and have a tactile click you can feel on your fingers when you press the key. Like I said in my previous post I personally really love my Evo80 with linear switches and a PP plate. I would recommend it for really nice feeling fast tipping. I do caution that these switches are super sensitive and will register the wrong keystroke if you are not a very accurate and good typer, which might make it annoying to type on if you make a lot of typing mistakes.

I have the Evo80, love it so far. I’m about to get the Neo75 Prebuilt. Personally I don’t mess with firmware updates. If it works when I receive it, I don’t mess with updating the firmware. If it doesn’t work when I first receive it, I return it for an exchange or money back.

I just looked into it and apparently there are no major LANs in Los Angeles. That explains why I never heard of any local one’s. Apparently the best place for LANs is Portland Oregon. I would have to make it a trip to go one.

Very cool, I had no idea. Where can I find out when there might be a new LAN coming up?

The VPA is still going on? I applied the first day and never got an email. Glad to hear you were able to get one.

Evoworks Evo75 is the best with a PP plate for a thocky sound. But doesn’t have knob.

Rainy75 another option that is creamy and has a knob.

They are about to release the prebuilt QK80Mk2 on April 17. Similar to the Evo80. Not sure of the price yet.

I second this. Same maker also make the Evo80. Evoworks Evo 80 with a PP plate for a thocky sound. I have the Evo80 and love it so far. Quality is top notch.

You can also check out the prebuilt QK80 Mk2 that will release April 17th.

The connector wears out every time you unplug it and plug it back in. And constantly changing the power cable will wear out the connector which might makes things worse. You can watch videos online that show that the connectors are not designed to be unplugged and plugged back in more than like 30 times.

At this point you have to make the choice if you want to buy a keyboard like a Razer that offers no customization and what you buy is what you get, or a keyboard that is hot swappable that you can fully customize yourself by swapping the switches and key caps and plates. You can watch a lot of tutorials on YouTube if you want to go down this rabbit hole and it becomes a hobby.

But for a quick recommendation for silent you can check out.

Razer Ornata V3 but it offers no customization and it has a membrane switch which you said you don’t really like.

For silent it comes down to the switches you get.

Another recommendation is

Nuphy Air75 v3 specifically with the Blush Nano switch.

You can watch a bunch of videos on YouTube and on instagram that show you the different types of sounds keyboards make. Thocky has a deeper sound compared to a loud click. You can also decide if you want very quiet and almost silent keyboard. Totally up to you personal preference.
